Gary, LOVE the zomebie, can't wait to meet you and your crew at TG. I pretty much watched your entire build as well as Wayne with "Dottie." Best of Luck to you...i believe you'll be competing against GA peach II, Darling Dottie, whoo hoo!

Nice Jug. You have nailed the weathering and I love it!!!! Now that is TOP GUN QUALITY.

Just make sure to add the pilot and scale prop.

Good luck to all.

There's another Zombie 47 coming from our C-Arf friends. The new 110" P47 / Moki 250 will be competing. Two Zombie's = tough competition!

See you all there!

Bringing a "borrowed" 30% Hostetler Cessna 150 Aerobat. Built by my late, great friend Sidney Rosen. 120" Wingspan, 38#'s, BME 58 for power, Xoar 20 x 8 - 3 blade prop, lights, brakes, smoke on board. Hope to test fly this week. Was going to do it last week but Lakeland got SLAMMED with tornadoes, no power at my house for over 2 days!
"Pro" side of Pro-Am for me although opinions may vary

See you in a few weeks!
Sean

Hey FTD,

Really nice job of the TF Jug.

Just out of interest. I see a switch hanging out near the canopy, how do the judges look upon those kind of things? Having never competed before i was just wondering? I understand that there are different categories....

Thanks

Top Gun is an invitational event. Were you invited?I would be very surprosed if you were invited, you are building your first scale model right now, and it is a conversion of a 73" ARF. Ihave never seen any 73" arfs at Top Gun. Also, you need to be able to fly. Have you ever flown anything besides a Great Planes .40 sized P-40? No insults intented, I just think you thinking that you are even close to the level of some of the people here or at Top Gun, being that you just started your first scale model, and it's just a convesion of a cheap ARF, is a slap in the face of people who spend thousands of hours and many years of experience to compete at Top Gun.

Well you were pretty harsh on the subject before your purchase.
I sure was. Evil Merlin gave me the idea. God Bless EM. now lets
see how far I can take this ARF. pretty fricken far I'm betting.
Top Gun 2012 is gonna be fun for me.

Dave, thanks for the compliment.
Taking the jug to Top Gun was kind of a last minuet discision, I had plans on bringing a Meister FW 190A, but due to the incliment weather and time constraints, I finally accepted the fact that it couldn't be done. Therefore, with that in mind, I had to scramble to get the jug complete (weathering, new radio, engine break in, and practice flights). Yall correct me if i'm wrong, but competing in the Pro-Am class either sport or pro, your first 25 pts are judged on recreating the original. Frank has even lowered the requirements by allowing us as pilots present an artistic drawing of our a/c, which works out great for me because the only pictures I was able to find are in black and white. This part of the judging looks at specific squadron markings, tail numbers, ect. Only to make sure that you did "recreate" the same a/c. The rest of the judging is based on 3 out of 4 flight scores (you drop your lowest score). Therefore, the pro-am class is judged on flying skills only (realism is a common category, and the rest 9 manuevers are picked by the pilot) As you advance up through the various categories (masters, designer, ect) you are judged more critical on static in other words how close your a/c resembles the real one. Whether I had mounted that ignition switch outside or hidden inside, the scale lines of a Top Flite kit (in my opinion of course) wouldn't stand a chance in a true static judging round. The kit is more designed for the "flyer friendly"

Therefore, no I did not build a "Mr. Top Gun" aircraft, my hats are off to those who have the craftsmenship and flying skills to compete at that level, I am truely honored to fly with them (just thankful i'm in a different class lol). I built an aircraft who's flight performance and characteristics have been proven (top flite kits have been around for ages and fly very well) and hope to do well with her. Either way, I learned alot though this build and will implenent those into the FW190A.

As far as the arf vs kit thing goes, frank i believe has allowed ARF's to enter into top gun as long as they are "bashed", so if he wishes to compete with his 109 and frank allows it, then go for it dude! I could have built the P-47 giant arf stripped, glassed, and had the exact same end product. If that particular part of the compeititon is based merely on flying a scale model scale, and he/she is invited to compete, then whats the difference?!?! This thread was intended for people to premere what they are bringing to Top Gun 2011, I will not let this thread turn into personal opinions desciding on who or who not is deserving to fly at Top Gun, thats up to Frank to descide. If it continues I will close the thread, sometimes people amaze me [:@].

Now back to the real story......whacha bringin' to Top Gun 2011!!!!!!!

Nothng wrong with bashing an ARF. But that little CMP Me109 is a joke. That guy thinking he will be goint to top gun is a joke.
But leave it go, there are some really nice projects here on this thread, Ilove that wildcat and the P47 too.

FTD,

That jug looks great! You've really made Top Flight shine with that one!

Scott, wish I could see that cat myself...looks a beauty!

Lastly I know the guys from CARF are bringing their beautiful jug Zombie, but I have to say, I prefer Rams Zombie of the two. His rendition looks so real!

No offense, everyone has some great looking planes this year! It should be another great event!

Wait a minute! Trying to pull a fast one, eh? You can't have a rubber banded-on wing.

Hi Fellers, this what I am bringing to top gun this year, I am in Pro-am sport, this is a top flite ARC P-51, and I finished it in a "Frenesi" motif this the sister ship to the "Old Crow" the original pilot was Lt Col Tommy Hayes from the Oxford boys outfit in england, out of 357th and 363rd fighter squadron escorting the B-17-S she has all the ribets and hatches like in real one but no iner gear doors, I had no time to make them, but here she is, and this is my first time competing in top gun too. Sorry I uploaded the wrong picture !!!

I may not remember right, but Ithink that is not scale, the original Ugly Stick had a bolted on wing and it had bellcranks on the wing to drive the ailerons.
Some beautiful planes on this tread.

Hey Berry
Good luck to you and everyone else at Top Gun. I think I remember seeing that great looking F-86g at TG an some ever else. Oh yea it is in my garage.

Hey Bubs
I have not seen your bro post up on here what is he taking down this year. I should have been going down myself as well. Frank told me I could compete with my big cessna but I figured I would stay home this year and do it in 2012.
Again good luck to all and happy landings.
