Maiden Flight...Ziroli Bearcat with Saito 450R
Greetings All,
After 2 years of building, I finally flew the maiden flight on my F8F. I must say I am very pleased with the 450R as a match for this airframe.
Here's the 3rd flight... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FOKM9iC1Io

Dave I run some Saito 450's and would like to know what fuel and prop you are using. Do you know the max rpm on the ground with your 22x12?

I am using the benchmark prop size (zinger 22X12) with byron 15% nitro 20% oil (blend of syn and castor) I am getting about 6000 rpm. The engine has about
3.5 hours total run-time so far. I'm not sure I will ever get the 7000 rpm they stated they would get with the benchmark prop.

Dave, I use 10% and get 7k with a 21x10 Mejzlik and 6.7k with a 22x10 Mejzlik. I am flying a 1/5 Wildcat at 34.5 pounds dry and don't have the speed you seem to have. I have a Menz 21x12 to try this Saturday. If I remember correctly I got 6.6k with a 3 blade 21x11 narrow Mejzlilk and better speed but lighter. Very nice video by the way and congrats!
