ESM Corsair 74in with DLE 55 ??
The wife is going to let me get one more war bird.
I lost my TopFlight Gold Corsair some time ago and Im now ready to get a new Corsair with out all the time it takes to build a stick kit.
My question is dose anyone have any insite on this bird?
They call it a 30cc bird, but every modle I own is over powered, the way I like it.
I got a DLE 30cc in my CMP 120 spitfire 71in wings span 14 pounds (love it)
Im not sure a DLE 30cc will move this 74in wing span 18 pound corsair the way my spit moves.
And I have read that I may need some more weight up front if I use a DLE 30cc (becouse there lightere than most 30cc) and I was thinking of putting a DLE 55cc.
Any thoughts?
I know his Corsair gets a tail wag going on when it gets going fast. How fast is fast No one has really said.
So My spit is fast, I just want to put a really nice big 3 blade prop for more scale on this bird, with some bombs etc, but I don't want top speed to be a blazing 50mph LOL
Thanks for any instite Mike
Im asking now before I buy the bird, becouse a club member got a used DLE 30cc for a great price, but If Im going to be better off with the 55cc I dont want to wast funds.
I also Have a sweet GeeBee R3 30cc size and it comes in at 17 pounds with 74in wings, Im useing a DLE 55cc with a 18X14 prop great bird, but even thow the prop speed on this set up is 100mph vs the 66 mph of the spitfire, the spitfire seems like it is moveing a lot faster than the old school racer.
Do you think this bird can hangle a DLE 55 with a 18X14 prop?
Im thinking it will move better as the corsair has retracts and is not as dragy of a air frame like the GeeBee R3.
Thanks

Thanks,
I have been reading throw some of the olders Corsair build post, but when I look at the time line (2008-2009)when this corsair came out, the gas motors that wereavaible then were very heavy and weak, alothashas changed in the gas motor world.
There are a few mentions of useing a dle 30cc I really wish DLE would make a 40cc motor.
But of course thats what kills me about DLE a dle 20cc is only $40 cheaper than a 30cc DLE. but another of my projects should not need more than a 20 but the 30cc looks so good. LOL

A DLE 40 would fit the bill for these 70" ESM warbirds.
To each his own but I wouldn't put a 55cc in this plane.
You will be breaking a lot of prop tips with a 22" prop.

RE: ESM Corsair 74in with DLE 55 ??
I lost my last one due to interference from the engine. I was using a G-38 that had been converted to IE. the engine started skipping in the air and I lost all control. The sierra retracts need a new leg but the engine and rest of the plane where a total lose. I am going to build another and power her with a Evo 35gt. Has the weight and power that I will need. Also mine was 19 pounds 6ozs. Flew great landed better. I have spent a month ourning her[] time to build another one.

an 18 " prop is very small for a 55 cc engine. A 22" prop is more appropriate.I flew my 84" GEEBEE y with a 32cc DLA engine an an 18- 8 prop and it flew like a bat out of hell

RE: ESM Corsair 74in with DLE 55 ??
Well yes 18in is a small prop for a DLE 55 but when you look at the 14 pich it makes it work
I put this 18X14 prop on a DLE 30cc and it only turned 6200rpms
I put this prop on a TGY52cc (Junk) it only turned 6700rpms
I put this prop on my DLE 55cc it turns 7500rpms The DLE 55 max RPMS is in the 8k range.
So I just installed a 18X(8-14) prop and the DLE 55 turns this sweet prop at 8k wich is 106mph prop speed ( not accounting prop slipage, and drag)
They sell a 18X16 prop but Im sure it would bog down the DLE 55 to 6600 rpms which is slower than the 14 pich prop.
I just wanted to know if any one has tried a DLE 55 yet in this corsair?
If you have a 30cc what do you think?
Well I read in the KMP corsair thread that some seemed to like the
G38 but it is heavy at 71oz turns a 18X10 at7300rpm
DLE 30 comes in at38 oz turns a 18X10 7200rpm (I have this on my spitfire and it rocks)
DLE 55 comes at 54oz wich is still lighter than the G38 turns a 18X(8-14) at 8K or a 22X10 at 6700-6900 rpms and lots of thrust may be 1:1 on this heavy corsair.
So I know it will fit, I know its a little to light, but it sounds like it will work nice
Also I looked up a DLE 30cc likes a 17X10 3 blade prop
and the DLE 55cc likes a 20X10 3 blade prop, I think a 20in 3 blade prop will look real nice and scale.
Do 3 blade props help with the torq thrust issue on take off?
Thanks Mike

A 20 or 21x14 should be a better prop for the 55. Better thrust, right now with that 18, you are loosing some. The smaller props work with engines that are timed for the higher RPMs like those for racing, not what you have. Get your RPMs below 7k around 6500 and feel the pull you will get.

RE: ESM Corsair 74in with DLE 55 ??
While I think that the 30 would have the power I would be leary of the weight that would be required. I had a G-38 in mine that had been converted to IE. It weighted 58 ozs and I still put a powered steel epoxy mixture in the front of the cowl. 29 ozs of it. That balanced it at 4 and a half inchs. If that heavy an engine reguired that much weight and the 30 is almost 20 ozs less you are talking about ALOT of weight. You then get into the problem of where you put that much weight.

Thanks I will give it a try,
Zinger has a 20x(8-14) and a 22x(8-14) Prop The duel pich props are supposed to load the motor like a 11 pich
I already had a 22X10 pich prop and it was tons of torq but not much speed, So wich would you go with?
Thanks
I think Im going to just order a EME55cc off this site for $285 This is the same price I was going to pay for a Used/Crash DLE 30cc, and I think the weight and the fact it will swing a 20X10 3 bladed prop will look real scale on this corsair.
I know EME is not DLE but as long as its close in power it will be ok,
Heck Even thow my TGY52cc is a joke as a 50cc to me its more like a 40cc, it makes more power than my DLE30cc and it weighs more than the DLE 55 to help with the balance.
I just would have to see if the side carb will fit inside the cowl.
I Figured what $$$ Im saveing on the motor I will get the Seirria Retracts.
Thanks Mike

I like the model alot. Unlike some CMP planes the fus is very strong. I modified mine with two seperate elevators servos with pushrods inside the fus. I made a scale tail wheel and added flaps. The plane flys great with the RCGE 26CC engine at 60% power. It weighs 17.5 lbs and will do very large loops at full power. The plane is so stable I took off without ailerons last month but was able to bring it around and land with rudder. See "Look Mom No Ailerons" for more details.

Thank you Tom . I appreciate the info on the plane.
I see you live in NJ I hope we will have an opportunity to meet at the WRAM show this year. We will have a booth there. In the interim have a great day.
I hope we can return the favor some day.

mikes68chargerESM corsair with a DLE 55.... So far it seems to be coming together ok. The only downfall so far is either cut the firewall for a pitts styp exhaust or go with the stock exhaust. I'll stick with the stock one...

It looks good. I gave up on the 55 as it just to big for my likes. Beside the fact so much head sticks out the bottom , I looked at it with a Pitts muffler It would put some of the round part of the Pitt would stick out the cowl. It probably look ok with a stock muff but I would love to se a pick from the side
I wish DLE would. Change there set up, or give us a 40cc with a rear carb and rear muff
I got a PTE 36 for my corsair as the head is 5mm shorter than a DLE30 and is set up with a rear muff for a nice. Clean look I will be useing a scale 18x10 3 blade prop (I have not tested this yet). I know it will spinn a non scale 17x10 at 6800 ish
Heck I Got a NGH35 cc in my 74in BF109 becouse it has a rear muff set up as there was no room for the side part of the Pitts (and it did rail and rear stand off mount)

RE: ESM Corsair 74in with DLE 55 ??
Made some more progress. Sorry for the delay. I was able to get the electronics mounted and all the retract work done. I changed the prop to a 3 blade prop too. I was able to fire up the engine with about 3 flips of the prop. I rand 2 tanks through it. I only need to set the CG. mount the cowl and tail whell cover. After a final check of the electronics and assembly t Ill be ready for a maiden.
