Ranger, I mounted mine 45 degrees below horizontal like the plans call for. That put the swinge muffler out the back of the scoop. You can also see the onboard glow, it was there for breakin. You can see the muffler in the front of the scoop.

You will have to cut the cowl at least to let enough air through to cool the engine or you will have deadsticks from it overheating. Saito FA 100 is the perfect engine for this plane. Also use the Saito aluminum motor mount as this will bring the engine thrust washer close to the specs for the distance from the firewall.

Wow, that looks good. I think I'll hold out for the Saito. I measured the 120 this morning and it's 157 mm long and 105 mm tall but the opening is 140 mm X 140 mm so unless I remounted the firewall it won't work. I like the yellow cowl too. My cowl has a crack in it so if I epoxy the back side and sand and paint the outsite yellow it should be fixed. Maybe they'll send a new one? Thanks, Tim.

...that was easy, they are sending a new cowl. I wasn't going to bother but the crack goes into the fiberglass, distorted it, so I kind of wanted a new one...I just reallized this is my first new plane (other than the one my wife, then girlfiend, and I built together 15 years ago, but we don't fly it).

Ok, bench testing the ST didn't work. I had about 6 dead sticks in a row an only got about 15 minutes of flying on 6 flights! I got a Saito 91 and it's perfect. You are correct it is really hard to stall this plane. I'm curious if anyone has glassed one yet? I don't like ARF covering. This isn't bad but I want to paint it in the desert scheme. With the ST 90 I added 2 1/2 oz of weight to the tail. With the Saito 91 and the mods I made I had to remove the tail weight and add a 2 oz spinner weight and 1 oz on the top of the firewall. I also totally enclosed the engine in the cowl, look here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3129825/tm.htm

Rangerman did you notice that it losses speed quickly in turns when the engine stops?
I don't know what happened when ST manufacture went to china but I have one that will just not run unless a on board glow is attached. I've got over 5 hr of air time on it and I just tried to lean it out with no success?
I have two of the round headed ST .61 (1978 vintage) that just run and run and run.

Rangerman:
Just get the Saito 100. you will not be disappointed. This engine flies the plane great and you will not have any problems with the Saito. When I break my Saito's in (I now have 3-100's) I run 1-3 tanks on the ground @ 4k rpm or less with the needle 5 turns out then lean it and fly the plane. Watch your flight times as Saito's go through alot of fuel when running them rich.

The ST I have is an Italian model but still doesn't like to be in a cowl or something. The 91 runs great and it flies it between .5 and .75 throttle and it had only a half gallon through it when I bought it for $185 so I got a good deal. If anyone else is buying an engine for theirs I would suggest the 100 for the weight because like I said I added 3 oz or 84 grams to the nose! The onboard glow device is setting at +3/4" CG but the NiCd is setting about -3" on the CG.
It does loose a lot of speed in turns but it loves to fly perpendicular to the ground which is very cool. I thought with the dihedral (spelling?) it would want to correct itself but like a warbird you have to fly IT.
Over all, I love it : ) I might get to fly my brothers H9 Miss America and I'm curious about the differences...before you comment, he knows I'll buy him a new one if I crash it and he'll probably make me build it too!

RE: Flew Great Planes Stuka
Pics of my GP Stuka..powered by a Tower Hobbies .61...repainted using Krylon....decided to repaint because the covering had some blemishes...after reading an ariticle in Model Airplane New (repainting the GP DR1), I decided to give it a try. July 4th last year I lost control (radio interference) she went in with only 15 flights.......only damage was the left wing was sheared off at the root. Well after 1 year and 1 month...I decided to dust her of and repair it...waiting on replacement wing. Anyway, I like this plane too much to let her sit gathering dust anylonger. It flew great and will fly again.........................

Sorry to hear they've not brought them back yet. I've been flying mine a lot lately...so much it's ready for a re-model.
I think next I'll build the Ziroli Stuka but I might practice glassing this one next month and fix all the hanger rash. I'll post some pictures.
I put on one set of the crosses but I didn't like the gloss finish and figured I would paint them on after the glass. You could use some flat Lusterkote to dull it.
Tim.

They will, this is all marketing. remember the Flop Tite AT-6 they brought it back because the demand suported a price that was profitable for tower. All the dies are made and payed for by the first run, but as the ARF's are bought up the demand begins to wayne when the market gets saturated. So they discontinue it and over time demand builds and it will be reissued at a special price, that means more $$$.
