Balancing a Top Flite P-47
I have a 60 size Top Flite P-47 with a Saito 91 and retracts. It took 20 ounces of lead in the cowl to balance it. Does that seem like a lot?

sounds about right Sam if the tail is heavy.
I dont have one, but I built the FW190, and it was very
tail heavy. Mine took alot of lead in the nose to balance.
I've got an OS .61 FX, no retracts, weighs 10 lbs!

Sam,
Sad but true. These men speak the truth. I needed a little over a pound on mine. Fiberglass, Paint, Retracts, cockpit kit and Super Tiger .75 to boot. The good news . . . flies great Great! Welcome to Warbirds!

I must be lucky -my 1/7 Top-Flite Thunderbolt with an O.S.1204/C W/ pump and a 2700 M.A. air born battery pack needed no weight to balance; and I did glass and prime with 2 part urethane primer and IMP's very light weight Skinni-Dip for a natural Aluminum finish.
I just fitted my new 1/5 scale T Bolt W./ a large gas burner and it's looking like it won't require ballast either(I just hope the Flite Metal finish on it does not make it come out tail heavy. :sunsmiley

I used the "Old" Vortec release mechanism. At one time you could get them from Tower Hobbies. I didn't use bombs , I used the drop tanks that Top Flite sells for this kit.

Wow! with a 1.20 that must be one powerful T-bolt. I like that. If I had to do mine all over again, a 1.20 would be the way to go. You might as well put the weight to good use.
p.s. Thanks for the fine comments.
