RE: Meister Scale P 47 - step by step
Hi Mirce,
I see that you are using large and bulky horns for the ailerons and flaps. You can use the large Robart ones which work great. They dont stand out as much too. The flaps you can attach over the top of the flap and conceal them totally.
Just a thought for you.

Thanks Dino, you made much more models like this one, and you know what is enough strong...
In few my early projects I learned few things.
On Ziroli Hellcat, he made connection for flaps same as you do on picture above. F6F have 4 flaps, two smaller, inner, on center panel, and two bigger on outer wing panels.
Distance between axis rotation and point where come connection from servo, for inner flaps, where profile is higher, and flaps area are smaller, was good for conceal connection.
But, for outer, bigger flaps, on the thinner wing profile, distance was to short, so flap always have some movement...
Than I change connection, add this big Dubro hinge, and flap has become very sturdy.
Some time I sacrifice aesthetics for safety. Model which I made is not for World class competitions, I will use it for every day flying, so for me is more important to be 120% save, than to have very scale details.
I give my best in building, but haven't so much options for buying parts. Important moment is, here I could not go on air field and see how some other guy made something on their model, because no one have models like this here. So, I maybe made some things over supplied...
Other moment in my building is, we here in Serbia, haven't any hobby shop. For many parts I must go in Hungary capital city, Budapest. It is 650 km trip!!! Of course, a lot of special parts for war birds, they haven't also.
Without help from Frank Tiano, Steve from Bobs Hobby Center, and now you Dino, my model career will be far away from here. I (with you) made incredible "gymnastics" to get parts, not to mention how much more money need to pay for that...
OK, now back to building, last night I put wing on the fuselage and fix it. In wing holes for screws I glued carbon tube for guide.
In fuselage I glued nuts, so this part of building is over...
Next step is to made under belly on wing bottom side. Kit contains parts necessary for this part of building.
I hope in next few days wing will be finish...
Today I start working on my Top Gun "project". Frank sent me invitation letter, and with it and some other documents I must go to US embassy in Belgrade to try to get visa. Hope everything will be OK...
Go to Top Gun for me is like coming to paradise...
Regards
Mirce

Your building skills are TOP notch Mirce. Many can learn from this. You think things through before hand. This is a very important step that many miss.
Thinking ahead makes a huge difference. You are a vrey clean builder. You take the time to do it right the first time and not rush through your steps. Many I see rush then have to redo it multiple times. As Mike Chilson says, measure twice and cut once. It really means more than it sounds. I wish I was such the clean builder as you!

Mirce,
I maybe known for scale modeling however a scale builder I am not. Building is something that I could bever really grasp 100%.
I love to glass, prime, paint and detail. Thats where my passion comes in. Then the flying, thats always #1 for me. :-)

Paint and detail are my favorite part of building too. But to come to that stage I must made model first...
To be honest, I like more to build than fly.
Now I've seen, yesterday was two months from start of this topic. After first month was 3700 visits, and now 7300+... So we keep the average...

Mirce,
When not if you come here, You are more than welcome to fly mine. I have to say that your build got me into building warbirds. My skills will be a test but I hope that they produce a quality that you will enjoy. I met Dino by phone and he is person that I believe will be a great asset to the hobby. I should be underway in the next few days and I will keep you up to date on our progress. I plan on being done for the JOE NALL in May.
Your friend in Michigan.

Seriously, hope you can make it. It would be a privileged to meet you in person.
Love the thread and all your pictures. This should be in CD form and included with each wood kit.

Thanks Father Goose and Gary for kind words. I also can't wait to meet my old, and new friends...
Wayne, that Hilton Garden Inn is little to much for me...
But I was there, Mike Selbi celebrated a birthday there. My wife an I was invited and spent wonderful moments at a party near pool...
Last time when we were on Top Gun (2009) we find accommodation in Kissimmee, in hotel not far away from Old Town. Two bed room was than 150$ + tax for a week!!!.
Hotel was OK, not 5 stars but respectable. We are out all day, so hotel is not primary on our trip...
I drive every day from hotel to Lakeland airport, but for me that is not a problem. Every minute of our USA trip for us was adventure...
When I come back in Serbia, I have a big smile at least 6 months... Next 6 months I looking forward to going again...
Two the most expensive things in my travel are airplane ticket and rent a car. So, if somebody want to real help me to save the money let me borrow some car for those 7-8 days or find me some cheep accommodation... This year I come alone.
Thanks in advance...
Back to building...
From yesterday I was not made a lot. I was working on wing belly... For better fitting I decided to use my balsa. Plates are more narrow than original, and must put every in hot watter for easyer bending... Ok, here are photos...
This phase is slow because must waiting balsa to dry. Hope that tomorrow everything will be ready for sanding...
Regards
Mirce

Hey Dean, if it works out that he can get over here, I'm sure we could find him a TF P-47 to fly in the gaggle if he is interested. We have the technology and it would be a pleasure. Let me know. It would be good to meet you Mirce.........Doug ( Meisterland South)
