Hi Ed B
You are bang on the money brown and green was not available on the Mk 9 but i like it more so i just did it! You are the first person to notice out of all the experts in my club i salute you. It gets a bit worse than that as NE D is my sons name and the serial no is my old frequency! None of which anyone has noticed also. I am not one for anal detail its just got to look right. If you like brown and green just do it.

All the better that the squadron letters are a tribute to your son. That's great!
There was one Mk. IX that had the brown/green camo--that's MH 434 that was repainted in those colors after restoration. All the other Mk IXs had the grey/green camo.
Enjoy the plane!

There have been quite a few restored Mk.IX Spitfires that have carried the early war "sand/spinach" colors, particularly for movie roles such as "Battle of Britain" and "Piece of Cake". While not correct from a historical perspective they would, of course, be suitable for scale model purposes. Of course if you're not planning to compete then it's really a moot point and you can paint your Spit in whatever colors you like!
