RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi Jamie,
Pictures are finally back and I can see what you are working on.
You got yourself a bit of work did ya?
I am sure it will look good when your done.
What make of 4.2 is that?
Andreas
Happy building & flying.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
It is a Brison 4.2 I think. Im not sure. It runs well and it should carry the mail easily There will be some of the cyl head exposed and some of the carb. I believe most of the muffler will be covered. I got some more work to do to it as I don't like the way the tail feathers are controlled. It has a single nyrod for the elevator and one for the rudder. Im going to change to a CF pushrod for the elevator and pull pull for the rudder. Hope to have it ready by our warbird meet in August. Im doing the final work on the Bearcat in the background. It belongs to a fellow RCU'r and needs to be glassed. Then it goes back home Anyways, Ill post pics as the work is completed.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Thanks for the info Jamie.
I am still waiting to maiden my Spitfire and it does not look good for any time soon.
Another 20cm of heavy wet stuff forcast for the weekend. Yuk.
Oh well, might as well start the build on my top flite 60 corsair kit.
Andreas

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Now that I have maidened my spitfire, I would like to request acceptance into the "Spitfire Brotherhood". Hopefully my plane is worthy of admission.
1/5 scale (88"); 27 lbs; Sierra retracts; First Place Engines (FPE) 3.4 ci (55cc); sliding canopy controllable from the transmitter.
A successful maiden was completed today. No issues. Plane flew as expected.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Thank you all for the kind comments. It is indeed a Yellow Aircraft kit. I did a very careful pre-flight inspection with testing and set the cg in the middle of the recommended range and it flew very well. The flaps were more effective than I expected them to be given their small size. As most of you know, it's always nice to complete the first flight and not have any problems!

That is a good looking paint scheme, the red trim really makes it stand out.

One of the special things with this plane is that the lettering actually is his initials, and it's not by coincidence.
The colours on the spinner, wings and rudder represents the Norwegian flag colours.
I am thinking about finishing a MkIX in this sceeme as he came from a small town not far from where I live.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi Brothers;
Big Brown just left this on my door step!!! I was not to open it until a week from today, because it will be my birthday, but I had to take a look!!
This is the ESM Spitfire Mk.XIV/XIX, 72" wingspan ARF. It will be power by a 35cc DLE35RA engine. Have yet to come up with a set of retracts for this bird. Any help from the Brotherhood on the gears to go with, will be a big help. When I stat the build, I will post it here. Just looking inside the box, tell me this is going to be a sweet build!!!
This did come from Troy Built Models and the shipping was $84.82 and this was not bad for shipping 27 LBS!!!
Thanks for any info on the gears and like I said, I will post the build here!!

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi Sonny,
Can you send Big Brown my way?
Only a little bit of a chew mark so good for you.
Looking forward to your build.
DLE 35RA .... Gonna be a bit of power there.
I know how you feel, I was not to have touched my next project either until fall.
However, I just could not resist and opened the box.
Needless to say, I promptly got caught by the better half and
now have a few more Honey Do items.

You are not the only one who is shock!! When the truck pull up in my driveway, my heart was beating fast. The outside box did have a small hole in it, so I open the box and saw the same size hole in the top of the box that had the model in it. My heart sank!! After opening the top of the model box and looking at the model, no damage was found!!! So far all my order that was ship by UPS has been good!!! But I know one of these days that may not be the case!!!

To All:
Here are some videos from the maiden flight last weekend:
Takeoff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31D8mQ65U9g
Go-Around on Landing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CpDtk77XU4
Landing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEFWUh-CW-0
This week I have been fine tuning a few issues with the plane, such as reattaching the gun sight, adjusting the rudder cables, etc., and switching to a different propeller to try this weekend. For the first three flights I used a Xoar beechwood 21x10 and the plane flew well and has plenty of top-end speed in level flight, but I would like to see if the plane pulls through vertical maneuvers better with a 22x8 prop.
Cheers,
-Ed B.

Hi Ed,
Very, very nice.
The end of the landing video was cut off a bit, but
I saw your reaction. What a feeling,! Right?
Hope mine goes as well as yours.
Thank you for sharing your maiden flight videos.
Happy fine tuning. I think you are right, the 22X8 should give it some more pull for sure.
Let us know how you fare.

Thanks guys for the compliments. The Yellow Spitfires are good flyers. The very end of the video catches me doing one of those celebrations you see in professional football after a player makes a first down, when they bend one leg and making a chopping motion with their arm! I was happy and did the same thing.

Awesome! Congratulations Ed. Very nice field too. Any job openings in Livermore?
Sonny, you are fortunate so far. Maybe it is just the Big Brown in this area but they are brutal. I have had orders arrive from Tower and Horizon less than 200 miles away that are so beat up it is unbelievable to the point where the items inside are falling out of the box not to mention damaged kits. []
