Default ESM 72.5" Spitfire Build!!

Brothers:
Here are some more updates on the ESM Spitfire build. As you can see, the cowling has been cut and in place. The spinner that is in the picture come from a H9 Blue Nose P-51. I was in the shop yesterday and was looking for a spinner in my spinner parts bin and saw the blue nose spinner. So out come the paint gun and you see the outcome!!! Any feed back will be welcome!!
Thanks guys!!!

Sonny-
Dave Brown 4" spinner works well on this plane. Looks like you are getting close to a maiden!

Hi Brothers;
Here is another video I just watch on you-tube. A B-17 flying with six other war-birds, but one was lost on take-off
And yes, there was a Spitfire in the group!!

Thanks, it looks very small. In the first time I thought it is some 20 cc engine.

Maddog-
Here is a plan from a fellow in Norway. Very easy to make on a lathe using dowel rod.

After 5 weeks of prepping the Clark Spitfire MarkIX and making sure everything was good yesterday was the maiden...

I had plenty of help from guys on my flightline and from John Clark (Clark Industries in Canada) himself. I got the engine to idle great at 1750RPM and WOT at 5850 (a little rich). Here's the video of my ill-fated maiden.

http://youtu.be/2krOzXMBd9c After pulling the cowl off I've found the motor mount/engine case had cracked and bent the prop shaft do to losing the prop. The prop hit the cowl and the hard landing beat up the cockpit kit in the fuse

Sparky,

Very unfortunate series of events. I hope the next attempt works out a lot better.

Sparky, Thanks for sharing the flight withus. You did a great job bringing her in following the failure, especially afteryour first take-off and before you had a chance to trim and/or make anypractice landing approaches.

It is hard to tell by looking at only thephotos, but it could be the blade failure caused an out of balance that mayhave let to the broken case. Just a guess, but it seems if the engine failure occurredfirst the forces would have also caused some movement of the remaining bladesalso.

Regardless of the cause, you did a great jobsaving the plane.

Hi Sonny,
I see you got the wingspan retracts. Let us know how they work.
So far, I am happy with my 100 deg rotating wingspan retracts, but time will
tell if they will hold up. I guess we'll know in June, should I get my f4u kit built by
then.
I'll have to talk to some of my club friends about giving my Spitfires FA100 Saito a tune up
come spring.
The push rods are clicking a bit. I hope that can be adjusted via the rockers.

Great save and bringing the aircraft back down in one piece. Hats off to you.
Oh man, that doesn't look good. Hope you are able to repair or get spare parts from Clark Industries.
Let us know how it goes.
Good luck with your repair.

Happy building & flying.

Andreas;;
I did hook them up today and they work far better than the ones I got from Troy Built. Like you said, time will tell if they hold up!! So far it look like I may have a little mod to do to make them fit in the cut-out. I will keep everyone updated on the gears..
What I do on my four stroke engines, after every 15 hours of run time. I pull the rocker cover and check. A lot of the times you will find the nuts loose on the rocker arms!

Thanks Sonny,
This is my first 4 stroke, and it makes sense. I'll check with Saito on their site for specs and
see if I can do the rocker adjustments myself.

Andreas

P.S.
Found it. :-)
Just have to get a feeler guage from the local automotive store.

AWSOME save, the blade may have gone first then the out of balance bent the shaft, that plane floated in like a butterfly. Ian

Default Need a Top Flite Giant Spitfire for two different events...

Hey Guys,

Its Adam from WWW.WARBIRDPILOTS.COM and I have a request...

I am a huge spitfire fan (Brotherhood #98) and am in need of two (completed) Top Flite Giant Spitfire Fuselages for the WRAM Show and Weak Signals Show. I want to display my RAF Pilot in the plane at the shows. I have stands that hold just the fuselage for display purposes.

I know this is an odd request and not easy for an owner to let their pride and joy out of their sight for a weekend, but I am willing to give you the $75.00 pilot free of charge. I will even ship it to you asap so you can put it in your plane.

I will need one for the WRAM show (New Jersey) (February 21,22,23) and one for the Weak Signals Show (Toledo Ohio) (April 4,5,6)

I want to focus on just the Top Flite Giant Spitfire for now. It is a very popular and new model on the market and is a great platform to showcase the Pilot.

Reply to this thread or feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if you have what I am looking for. The owner can bring the fuselage to the event on Friday morning and pick it up on Sunday Afternoon.

Let me know what you think and if this is something feasible.

Below is a little description of the figure with pictures:

I updated the uniform to a Royal Blue uniform with new life vest and Parachute Pack. It more accurately resembles what a Spitfire Pilot wore during combat. I have sold a bunch of these to Top Flite owners and they fit great in the new Giant Spitfire ARF.

As you can see they are fully articulating with the ability for every joint to move. And only weigh 8 ounces. The pictures of the pilot in the plane is the old Spitfire Pilot version in my 88" Pica Spitfire.

If you get a chance, check out this pilot and more than 25 other Pilot Figures at WWW.WARBIRDPILOTS.COM
