RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Been reviewing the thread again looking at the Spitfire photos, build threads, and more.
Funfly-RCU, what is the weight of your plane and what Powerplant are you running?
SJN, thanks for the movie link. My son-in-law gave me 3 DVD sets, each set containing 2 DVDs on WWII and aviation history for Christmas. I will watch this kind of stuff none stop. See Post 72 for the movie video.
Kenair, thanks for the great link: http://www.spitfire9.com/
We now have 7 new squadron members in the Spitfire Brotherhood.

If you would like to join the Spitfire Brotherhood, please send me an e-mail at [email protected], send me a PM or e-mail right here on RCU, or just make your request right here on this thread. I will track when I receive request and assign you a number based on the order by date and time when received. Who knows, maybe in the future we can have some squadron shirts and/or hats made.
Never can tell when you might run into another Spitfire Brother somewhere, so join now.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Here is my Spitfire addition to the Squadron; it's a Hanger 9, with an OS 91FS; 3 Blade Master Airscrew Prop; Robarts Struts, Wheels and Tires mounted to Stock Mechanical retracts; On-board Glow Starter, Gyro for Rudder/tail wheel for take offs; would that make me Squadron Member Number #29?

Not currently working on a Spit but I've had several in the past and plan to have several more in the future. I do make a 1/5.3 scale cockpit kit for the Spitfire if that qualifies me for consideration into the "brotherhood".

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hey guys, just picked up a partially completed Top Flite kit and can not decide what color to paint her when I am done. What is the origin of the green/brown camo vs. the gray/green camo. Is one from an earlier time period? I would also like to join the brotherhood by the way...what a beautiful airplane!

Brotherhood,
Here is the link to Keleo Creations, Inc., for pictures and more info on the exhaust system for the Hangar 9 Spitfire ARF.
http://www.keleo-creations.com/index...products_id=55
It is so cool to see the smoke trail move over the wing and tail. Yes its a mess at the end of a flying day, but that's the life of a warbird!!!

If anyone is really serious about colors, there's an out of print book I highly recommend titled:
British Aviation Colours of World War Two
The Official Camouflage, Colours and Markings of RAF Aircraft, 1939-1945
Arms and Armour Press
RAF Museum Series: Volume 3
ISBN 0-85368-271-2
I got my copy on ebay. I don't recall how much I paid, but I'm pretty sure it was under $50. I've seen some listed for astronomical prices. Mine is the 1986 printing. There is also a 1976 printing. Amazon has 4 of the 1986 printings listed from $110 to $262 and 3 of the 1976 printings from $179 to $265.
The main reason I bought the book was for the 29 color chips. For my Spit, I took the chips down to the paint store and had a quart of exterior latex mixed for 5 colors. I have enough paint for probably 50 kits! Some of the big box stores will mix small samples which would be more than enough paint.
If you can find a good deal on one of these books, buy it!

This is a great thread, count me in! I've been working on a Dynaflite Spitfire for a while now. Wingspan is 81" and will be powered by a Saito 1.80. It's almost ready for covering.

Well, Brad and Casey's votes of confidence must have done the trick as I received my membership number! (#30) All the pics of my Spits are in an ancient "non-digital" format but I'll try and get some scanned for inclusion in this thread. I'll post some pics of the Spitfire cockpit kit as well if there is interest. You simply can't have too many Spitfires! This is the one I would like to model in 1/4 scale in the not too distant future.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
The first Spitfires to reach the RAF were painted in a camouflage scheme of brown and dark green. The undersides were painted with one half black, the other white , with the dividing line running from nose to tail, sometimes only the underside of one wing was painted black, leaving the fuselage underside white. The idea behind this strange underside colour scheme was to aid identification of RAF aircraft by anti-aircraft artillery. Later in the war the entire underside was paint light blue, light grey or duck-egg blue.

you will love that Dynaflite Spit, I have a 1.50 in it and it flies beautifully. I re engineered the retracts to a somewhat proper position

A friend advised me of this site and after looking it over I'd be proud to be a member. Please sign me up....the thread is such a tribute to this aircraft.
