Lein/Holman 1/5 FW-190A8 refurb
Hello guys,
So I'm getting close to finishing up my Fliteskin ME 109F, and this past weekend I found what will be my next project... Now some of you may ask, what about the BT Spitfire? Well as you can see this bird has been started and wont take alot to get it going. I've got the motor, an AXI 5345-14, the ESC(castle creations 160HV v2). Now I'm not going to go nutz on this one, so Williams Brothers wheels, and I may go with Shindin gear.
I will apply minimal detail, weather , and fly the s**t out of it!
weight of it as it sits 7 lbs 1.8 oz....
here's what I got for $100.00 US

Casey...you don't need really need the spar. I've flown a couple of them that didn't have one....but I built a couple of them with spars also. Your choice. Great score of a kit. These build into good planes. You'll be pleased with the end result.

Noah,
A great score indeed! Congrats on your move to Oklahoma and new job. It's a beautiful state, full of good people. I'm sure your a very welcome addition there with your spectacular Avenger, and that little cat you have...lol
Wulf,
Thanks for the input on the wings. I think that I will put a carbon fiber spar through the center of the wing, (just aft of the gear bays) out to where each aileron starts just to be safe. I did'nt build whats there, and this will make me feel better about it I think. I could even put a sub spar in rather easy, in front of the gear...I may do this also so I can peel back the lower skins to make sure the gear blocks are tied in well too. Hope you check in as I may want to pick your brain here and there.
Thanks for the interest guys

Bob,
Funny you say that...I've been through that thread twice since I've been home from the show lol, its a great thread with some great tips!
I was thinking the same on the arrows, then I remembered I ordered a couple of 4 foot lenghts of carbon rods for another build, I'll dig them out and see if they will work. Sure miss your builds sir, havent seen ya around as much of late...You been fly'n all this time?!?

Terry,
Thanks for the link, but Jeff's offering a pretty good deal on everything he has, so I bound and determined to get something worked out with him for it.
Invertmast,
As I stated earlier, I've not only followed your great build, but have reread it twice in the last two days. I'll be using all I can gleen from it, and thats plenty! Hope you check in to keep me straight!

The first suggestions i have, are:
Do not use a foam cored elevator or rudder, build them up per full scale or cut the foam ones to lighten then up.
On te horizontal stab, cut lightening holes in them, and use a 3/8" piece of balda for the trailing edge to keep the strength. Do the same on the vertical stab.
Only put one bulkhead in the fuse between the wing TE and tail section.
Unless uou just absolutely have to, dont use the retractable tail wheel! Removing this bit will save you nearly a pound of nose weight.
Mount your lipolys under the cowling utilizing a cowl hatch like i did.

Jeff,
PM sent about the gear, I'll buy em!
Invertmast,
The ailerons, elevators, and flaps have been pre built, but are abit on the heavy side, so new built up scale ones are in order. I was thinking the same on the hatch, by cutting off the gun hood and using that area for the batts. Its a perfect spot. I was also considering just locking down the tail to keep it simple. This way I could strip the sierra tail gear of what I did not need on it.

I seen those gear just before they sold.. Great score on them and the kit! I'm waiting on when I close on our new house here in September (new build) to start my Holman Anton. I have the wood wing kit similar to the one I used in the Dora.

Good points. I didn't use a retract t.w. on either of mine. Got rid of the sliding canopy on the second one trying to save more weight. The second is lighter than the first by more than 2lbs. A sound system will be a tight squeeze in there...particularly the speakers...maybe the bottom of the cowl?? They fly awesome. You will love the thing. Great ground handling and predictable on approach. Will be watching the thread...you should do it up proud I am sure.
I have another one sitting in the box that I just looked at and thought...wow, gotta finish that....a relatively intact wing from a crash mounted to a new fuse which was entirely destroyed...shouldn't take long if I can ever get it done.
Scheme choice???

"Great score on them and the kit!"
yes sir!
I'm down 400.00 atm. The retracts came with scale wheels as well! Although I will probably still use the Williams Bro. that I have on the way as they are sooo light and actually look fairly scale for the 190.
Casey
Look out, I'm going to burn up the sky with this one! lol

Wolf....
no sound system on this one...(unless I need the nose weight)as far as the cockpit, the turtledeck is already glued in the fixed position, so fixed it will be. I'm gonna try to source everything else from my shop if possible, this one will have all the surface detail, and panel lines, perhaps even rivets....perhaps.
this will be my everyday flyer, scaled out to a point.
now to find a spinner!
