Umm...yep.
Having said that with some effort you can find something close, but not quite. It has to do with the thickness of the aluminum, type of aluminum and adhesive. I guess, though what else is there to it? Well, the adhesive is the biggest deal. People have done it with alu duct tape, but the result sure isn't like Barry's planes nor as lasting.

WB1, Yes it is normal to cover the entire airplane and then do all the paint work after. The best thing to do is to use an automotive etching primer on the aluminum before you paint. When you first lay down the flight metal you will notice that there is an orange peel look to it. That is being cause from the adhesive on the back side. The way to get rid of it is to wet sand the hell out of it. Or depending on how you are going to finish it you can also just hit it with a 3m scotch pad to dull the surface. With a little practice they say you can wrap a golf ball with one piece of flight metal with out getting any wrinkles. It will stretch up to 25% with some patience and a lot of pulling.
