Umm...yep.

Having said that with some effort you can find something close, but not quite. It has to do with the thickness of the aluminum, type of aluminum and adhesive. I guess, though what else is there to it? Well, the adhesive is the biggest deal. People have done it with alu duct tape, but the result sure isn't like Barry's planes nor as lasting.

I haven't seen any video's available on how to apply it but this was my first effort with using it.

very nice greg. is it normal to cover the entire plane then do the paint where needed? i know that paint and aluminum don't agree. meaning getting paint to stick to aluminum or even the primmer is difficult. WB_1

i totally get the thickness thing and the adhesive thing . you can tell that the duct tape has a heavy amount of adhesive . i can see it when i put the stuff down before. as far as the thickness goes... it has to be easier to massage around tight curves without the wrinkles , i used a small piece on my byron AT-6 to simulated a stainless heat panel. that was easy though. i uploaded a pic of my t-6 scoop , do you think flight metal would be able to wrap around the front edge to the inside ?

WB1, Yes it is normal to cover the entire airplane and then do all the paint work after. The best thing to do is to use an automotive etching primer on the aluminum before you paint. When you first lay down the flight metal you will notice that there is an orange peel look to it. That is being cause from the adhesive on the back side. The way to get rid of it is to wet sand the hell out of it. Or depending on how you are going to finish it you can also just hit it with a 3m scotch pad to dull the surface. With a little practice they say you can wrap a golf ball with one piece of flight metal with out getting any wrinkles. It will stretch up to 25% with some patience and a lot of pulling.
