I just saw your plane "in person." Dave did a very nice job on it. I know you are going to like it. That engine should move it right along with some authority. The retracts are the best I've seen on a 190......Will I see it fly at Bomber field? There's 9 of us leaving Wed. morning for Houston.

RE: FW190
Unfortunately, I've been waiting for Bomber Field for a year, but our military customer wants to do a firex on the 22nd and 23rd.. I dont have to be there till monday morning, so I may do saturday and come back sunday.. I'll have to see how things go..
If you know anyone that can bring the FW190 down with them and detour thru Lafayette Louisiana I would be willing to pay them for the detour instead of Dave shipping this down.. can you check around and let me know?

RE: FW190
I'll surly ask the group that is going.....I'm driving down with Jeff Q. and as you can imagine the truck and trailer are pretty full. Jeff's bring down the 124inch Mosquito and his big Avenger which must be over 110 inches. I have a platt 109 and a 90 inch AD Skyraider. And we are hauling down a Zirolli Stuka, a large twin mustang and a BT-10 twin eng. bomber which is another large one.....Jeff's "giant" corsair unfortunately won't make it down this year. The gear are still at Sierra Precision for a make-over. I have another friend going solo. He's bringing a yellow Jug and P-38 with him. I'll give him a call and see if he would be willing to make the trip to La. Any idea how far off the beaten path it would be? I think we are running straight down 35. If it looks like it may work out, I'll send you an email and I'll get your number from Cal B. I think you guys know each other.....would like to see the 190 fly.

Rick...Jeff here. I could probably bring it down to bomber, but do not have time to get it over to you. IF you would work it out so that Lenny Smith could bring it to you, maybe that would work. E-mail me at [email protected], or call 952-432-2541.

RE: FW190
flew this puppy for the first time sunday it flew perfectly, I had a dead stick and one gear stayed up and wouldnt come down, so I sucked the gear up and dead sticked into the tall grass and didnt even get a scratch... she could have come in under power without flaps, she's that docile... love it.. its a keeper.. RE: FW190
I believe it was heat, but after looking a little closer I realized that there is very little air in the fuse, perhaps it was starved for air.. after pulling the engine I also realized that if you turn the prop counterclockwise it turns fine, if you turn it clockwise it stops at a certain point and if you rock the prop back and forth a bit, it releases and then if you turn it again, at the exact same spot it locks up again... bizarre, it didn't lock up in flight, it just dwindled down till it died..
The dead stick was a bit of a surprise, not to mention the gear jamming... I cycled the gear and it cycled fine, but what happened, the edge of the strut door caught on the edge of the wheel well and didn't allow the right gear to drop..
I was already apprehensive about landing hot on a short runway, so the dead stick, gear up and apprehensiveness made for a real fun landing...
I was heading upwind when she started to lose RPMs, I brought her around, nosed her down to gain speed, turned final, once I was on final I floated her in and raised the nose to slow her down, I realized I wasnt going to make the runway and was concerned about belly landing on a hard grass surface so I was shooting for the tall grass at the end of the runway, so on approach and at the point of almost stalling, I nosed her over gained speed, got into ground effect and floated her into the tall grass, making a perfectly flat landing, slightly nose up and slow.. not a scratch, even saved the prop that was timed just right for dead stick.. ( 3 blade by the way )
whew, it took more effort to post this report than it did to land... all in all, a sweet airplane, flew like a scale bird, and I could have come in and settled down in 200 feet without flaps... the real treat was the engine sound, that 215 rules, and sounds extra scale..
many thanks to Dave again, the builder, he did a super job...
