Warbird Cockpit, Mig-3 scratch built!
Just thought I'd share this Mig-3 cockpit I built scratch built. Certainly not contest standards but my best effort for the time I invested.
Has 206 different pieces of material.

aymodeler.
The seat is from a carpenter's blue chalk bottle purchased at Home Depot. Had it for years. Cut away what I didn't need.
Thanks for the reply.

What IĀ“m working on?? IĀ“m working on my thesis and state exams So I havenĀ“t so much time.
But in time IĀ“m dealing the problem with the retractable tail wheel on my La-5. I have still problem with the opening doors. [] I can close it, but when I want to open the gear, the doors are still closed.
The next thing is finishing of my Eagle Renegade in pictures.

Cockpit looks great so far. Is this a competition CL model?
Also, is the fin still missing the rudder?

Thanks for the kind remark. I have a considerable amount of time in that cockpit and I'm happy with the way it's developed.
No, the model isn't for any CL compitition. Just a means for me to have fun and to have a model that's a bit different from others. And it is!
The rudder is there, just one piece. Flat on one side and airfoil on the other.
The rudder will have faux material on it, vinyl, to represent being built up and fabric covered. As I did with some areas of the cockpit.
Thanks for the reply.

I know, school is the main priority.
Here is my La-5FN. IĀ“m sure, you know it.

Prekin,
WOW!
Knocked me over! I didn't expect that at all. Kudos!!
Certainly not saying this to be funny, but as you said, "thanks for sharing your pictures, it is good inspiration for me."
And what a time for this and to view your work. I see your sliding canopy. I was thinking of doing the same. Without the slider, the inside looks blury.
Niver did a slider. Any tips or methods?

Thank your for the kudos, charles. The sliders are inside, but they are in the space between the cockpit and the fuselage.
Here are some more pictures of the opening canopy. To write some methods or all process in English could be comlicated for me. []
So, if you would have some questine, it would my pleasure to answer it, OK?

Great workmanship!!
OK, OK! Gotcha.
So, I understand how the rail is made. That's clear and not so difficult.
What kind of fastener do you have that slips into the slot you made?
It would be the fastener not seen in this photo? The inside of the slider.
Perkin,
Hey! Post whatever you have on that model, photos included, I would like to know more about it.
I've always had an interest in Russian aircraft. This is my first semi-scale Mig-3. I'm dreaming of a larger more to scale Mig-3.

I hope I understand you what you mean. It made by srew and nut. The nut you can see in the picture which you send. The round hole in the slider is for the head of the srew. Is it clear? The srews are in the red circles.
Charles, check your e-mail.

Prekin,
OK, that's what I thought you did. Thanks for that great sketch, I hope you didn't make it just for me.
I'm at 1/11 scale. A small model that isn't scale at all. just some features that resemble the Mig-3.
My cockpit opening is not flat or straight like yours. There would be some issues in this area that I would have to overcome.

Yes, I did it just for you but it took me about 2 minutes.
The round shape of the lower part MigĀ“s canopy is problem. I have no idea how to make it.
Your 1/11 Mig will be more scale than my 1/5 La-5.

Prekin,
I'll have to give my issue and set-up some thought.
Probably have to do a mechanical.
I believe your La-5 is really nice, you're being to kind with your words about my Mig-3.
My Mig-3 is "playful" scale.
In fact, the model didn't start out as a Mig-3.

RE: Warbird Cockpit, Mig-3 scratch built!
I was asked about this Mig-3.
Started out as a British designed CL model called, the Senior Monitor. I had the plans.
I had an old wing that looked close to it, so I just made an outline of the profile model and started building something quick. As I progressed with it, someone brought to my attention that the model looked like a Citroen car. That was the slap that woke me up. Bingo!
Sooooooooo, I had this model drawn in CAD called "The International." I used this model as a guide to make the changes.
An entirely new design, my own actually. Sporting a new wing, a new stab, a new fuselage profile and I was well on my way. Eventually I added formers for a built up fuselage.
The Ugly Duckling to a beautiful Swan? Don't know about that, but I did have interest in Russian aircraft, and a few added details and this Mig-3 is now what I have.
Here's the back story in pictures.
