I suppose "best" may be debateable but these are pretty darn good:

Looks like Robart or comparable nice wheels are $80 to $90 each. What are yall running for wheels? any cheaper but nice wheels? $40 range?

Same place as your retracts. Robart sells rims and tires. They are a beauty but you need to open your wallet nice and wide!
I have them on mine and it really makes it a show stopper.
Good luck.

Davinci's 5.5" wheels have the diamond tread and look great! Too bad they aren't available in 5". The economy look good, but it's almost a let down compared to the delux wheel. Why is it so hard to make diamond tread in 5.0" size? I'd pay $200.00 to get what I want if they'd fit. And Glennis wheels don't cut the mustard. Their tread pattern just looks wierd.

Try Sierra Giant Scale for P51 wheels.

I have the same problems with all my planes!!!! But it's not the radio or the plane's problem. The problem lies with the pilot!!!!

I tell everybody that since I'm an IT guy I do everything in binary, so my throttle is either at idle or full throttle!!!!

I started the sheer webbing replacement as posted on post #1263 page 51 by Gary9648. I really appreciate what gary posted with the pics as it gave me the confidence I needed to cut up a brand new, unopened RTC airplane, which by the way is no longer offered. The sheer webbing aft of the spar(s) were running horizontal/parallel and the balsa is a joke! I think I bought one of the last RTC airplanes offered as I bought it in February of 2012 and they still did not figure out to run the grain vertical. Oh well, I'm glad they didn't do it right due to the fact that I may have just let it go. I was able to break the balsa sheer webbing with a strong finger flick! I'm really glad I have ply webbing now and will be moving forward with glassing and warbird colors paint. I would be pissed if I had to redo this area after my first landings due to structural failure. I already know there will be some rough ones. It is my first giant.

I am at the same stage spit.
I also have the balsa running weird.
I did this mod to my other GS TF P-51 and it is well worth the time.
You can botch the landing and it still hold together like a charm.

Has anyone removed an aileron for repair or replacement? How did you deal with the hinges?

Remove the aileron, then I start with a heated wire to melt the hinge and remove the hinge, then install new hinges after the repair.

I take a piece of brass tubing thats the next size bigger than the hinge. Cut little saw teeth in the end of and you can use your drill to cut them out. I do this on all my robart type hinges. Its fast and easy.

Last time mine was clocked, she was knocking out 145mph in a shallow dive. 135 level.

Radar gun. at different fields with different guns over the years

I'm running a G-62 on Pennzoil, side dump muffler and a T-6 racing prop. I converted over to an rcxcell ignition a couple years ago from a CH ignition. It doesn't flatten out in a dive.

20-8 xoar prop? 2 blade? You must be turning over 11k rpm. I tried a 20-10 xoar prop on my DLE-55 and had to take it off. Turning 10.5k on the ground. Too much! 55 and 50 darn close in rpm. went back to a 22-10. Perfect.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe refferring to a 20X8 3 Blade? I run a Zoar 22X8 WW@ Prop on my P-40, runs great.

Hey guys. I have a landing question. This is the 4th time in the last month, that I have nosed it in. Out of about 25 landings. With full flaps down and flying it to the ground I can land it fine. Then when it`s still up on two wheels if I am not hair trigger on the elevator she will quickly or slowly nose forward. This time I broke the prop. Stops on the spinner where it stays till I go get it. If the grass is not cut perfect I get a some drag on the wheels. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Comes In perfect. It flies and takes off great. She will just slowly start nosing forward. Sometimes I can stop it with elevator and I am ok. DLE-55 with Robart air retracts. Any ideas?

I could think of few things.
Wheels binding or spinning freely?
cg too much forward?
did you check for too much toe in?

just some ideas.

Thanks Doomking.
I just installed some new Davinci 5` wheels. They spin freely. Did the same thing before I changed the wheels. I have a little down dialed in because it will climb slightly at med. to full throttle. On rails on low passes. CG does lean slightly towards the nose. I could move my receiver 6.0 NiMH battery which is above the tank more to the rear? 4.8 igni. mounted by the red robart valve over the wing. Could I mix in some up elevator with flaps down? Seems like that would be opposite. lol

Try this. after touch down, raise the flaps. This will cause the tail to drop and helps slows the plane down quicker. Just make sure you are slow enough( on the ground, not approach) not to send it back in the air when the tail drops. The flaps keeps the tail up after landing for to long.

After 8 years flying mine I have very few nose overs.

Hope this helps,
Kelly
