Default paint that sticks for foamies??

Hi All: I am going to redo a 1700mm P-47D to a different paint scheme. I'm wondering if anyone out there has ideas on paints that will resist peeling off from the foam even when the least tack tape is used for masking. Also, if anyone has ideas on safely removing decals from the stock versions to prep for the repainting, I would really appreciate it. Everything I've tried in the past with foamies, the paint pulls off too easy when trying to do minor changes.

thanks

The wing and fuselage, whole airplane for that matter, needs to be sanded completely and then painted with water base latex. Lowes and Home Cheapo have a pretty good selection of colors. Some stores (you will have to check) can mix the paint in a rattle can which is very convenient. As far as removing decals, peel off what you can and sand the rest, DO NOT use any chemicals, I found this out the hard way. I've got a Chinese clone of the Park zone Habu2 less retracts, and have repainted it in Blue Angels colors. The Blues used a single engine jet in the 1950's so its kinda stand waaaaay off scale, but looks great in the air.

Hi Stuka Barry: thanks for the great tips! I am very wary of putting anything on foam that it disagrees with! I have been stung in that way, too. I'll use your advice on my next project. I don't have any problem with the paint scheme of the factory fresh FMS airplanes; I guess I just have my favorites and just can't leave well enough alone!

Cheers

David,

Michael's crafts store sells foam safe paint used on floral arrangements. I've used it to redo my parkzone 109. It worked great! Comes in spray cans too! With a ton of colors to choose from.
