Yes, Jim Wahner and I were friends. He also taught me to fly. He had a stroke in 06' and passed in 12'. No, not retired, I work 50-60 a week in 10-16 hour stretches. If you been around that long, you know Tom Kunath. He will be the one that maidens the plane. Around here we call him the chief test pilot, I build em' he tests them, and then we both fly them. He's a better pilot then I am, I don't have any problems flying the planes, but on a maiden, I only trust Tom. I'll bet our paths have crossed. I have run the Electrons Scale Festival for the past 12 years. We also fly at Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest in Fond du Lac.
Tom is OK but his son is better I make one day at Fon du lac (just to watch) usually stay on North end with Mat Teresinski and his big P-47 F4U and his deceased 1/3 scale DVII.

Tim is diffidently a chip off the old block, and yes a better 3d flyer, he's not into warbirds, Tom can fly anything.. I know Matt, he comes to my scale event every year, he know he is guaranteed to win at least 20.00 when he shows up.

Blair,
13 years ago, I learned how to fly for one reason, to fly scale warbirds. Scale for me ( and me only) means fly them in a scale manner. I will never be able to afford a radial, but I can fly with a scale exhaust and 4 blades (on my Mustangs). If that means sacrificing speed, I can live with that. I have never had the need to fly faster then the plane would in it's scale. I have no problem with the "speed" warbird guys, that's their gig. Biela is just a means to an end. They are alot better than Zinger 4 blades I can tell you that. If someone comes out with a better 4 blade.............I am there!

Trust me theres nothing more I like on a P47 than a big 'ol four blade but she just cant turn it so im back to a two blade.
I love scale too, i have hand made custom exhausts on most of my planes

Top Flite p47
Another P47 for the Brotherhood....
This is my Top Flite p47 which started out as a Tarheel Hal version. I converted it to a razorback P47 done with flite metal. The plane swings a 26x12 prop with a DA85.

If ever you loose hope, you've surrendered to failure......Unless you have owned a Saito FG33R3 then surrender is a sign of intelligence!!!!!

From what I have read, you drop 1 inch of diameter for each blade you add. So, if your 20cc was happy turning a 17x9, it would turn a 15x9x4 well. Sounds like a lot of prop to me. My 20's are happiest with 17x6x2, 16x8x2 and Master Airscrew 16x8x3's. I would say that trying a 15x6x4, or a 14x8x4 would be a good test, although an expensive one.
I bought a Beila 20x10x4 and tried it on a 55cc in a T.F. Tarheel Hal. It flew, but not with much enthusiasm. About equal to a 22x10x2 at 3/4's throttle. I'll try the 4-blade on a G-62 in the same plane this Spring and report the results.

The problem with the Bela prop is not the sizing, it is the design. If you look at the paddle on a Bela prop it is undersized and poorly designed. Look at a Solo paddle blad and it has a much wider even paddle. In theory my 22x10x4 bela would work on a 55-60cc as it is useless on a 85cc and maybe a 24x10x4 would work on a 85cc but I dought it. Even if I tried my 22x10x4 on my 120cc it still would not work due to the bad designed paddles. I guess solo props are the only way to get descent 4 blade performance.

Too easy Hd,
Heres my Saito 115 powered Spitfire exhaust,
My Saito powered P40B, its a real hoot to fly, GPS'ed at 210.3kph, its just a weapon!
ignor the silicone hose on the exhaust, I tried it and it done work! I went to metal conduit with the pvc removed, it gives high flow without the loses that convoluted rubbish cause.
My Saito 325 R5 powered P47, being a film plane i chose to exit forward from the scale outlet to save the film from the heat

What you say about the Beila blade design has merit. I also bought a Beila 20x10x3 as well as a Xoar 20x10x3. The Xoar flat out-pulls the Beila measurably. The Xoar is a tapered design optimized for model airplane needs whereas the Beila is more scale-like. I didn't tach either prop, but the Xoar really hauled the 25 pound T.F. P-40 around while the Beila was strained.

He bailed when the tower told him the right wheel fell in to the corn. Really he's still in the box but I'll get
"Round To IT" Real soon now. No use getting in a hurry. Had the plane for 7 years and it got maybe 5 flights.
And non by me. Go Figure. It's sister is standing on it's nose in the spare room awaiting a DLE-55 and Tank. Bought the plane 4 years ago and the DLE-55 2 winters ago. I don't really get much done. Didn't retire 13 years ago to work. anyways I'll Get ROUND TO IT" some day. If not one of my flying buds can offer 10 Cents on the dollar for my stuff, after I'm dead. But thanks for asking. The other answer
"IT's a DRONE and drones don't need no stink'n pilot"
