Byron P-51 Spinner
Hi, I need a spinner for a Byron P-51 with the 4 blade prop. Anyone have one they would sell? Or, does anyone know who might make one to fit. Tried contacting Iron Bay and gave up. Thanks.

Hey Donzie, I just need the spinner. My blades and hub are fine. For some reason the spinner cracked starting at one of the prop cutouts. What do you have in the way of spinners?

Hercules, have you flown a plane with this Byron 4 blade setup before? I was just curious because a friend of mine used to use one on a Byron P-47 and he liked flying it, however be aware that when you pull the throttle way back the plane will nearly stop in the air. that prop disc is like a parachute on approach. He said it would dead stick land ok, but he had to be careful on the throttle setting when landing.

Hi Foodstick. I have not flown the plane yet but I have talked to several people who have flown them and they said just what you did - that the prop was like a big speed brake. I am in the process of painting it right now and hope to fly it in a couple months maybe. It's funny you mentioned dead stick landings. Just the other day I was flying a 40 size sport plane and was doing sloppy landings. Then the motor died and I did a perfect landing. I think it was because the engine even at idle was causing me to overshoot. Go figure...

You know, I was so bad at tuning motors I think I flew two years before I landed under power I have owned a couple planes since that were scratchbuilt, and they landed better without the prop blast !
have fun with that 4 blade, everyone will be walking around it and drooling.

I really miss my Byron mustang that i owned a long time ago. It was a very easy plane to fly and land as long as you kept a little bit of power on during your approach to touch down. I sold it to a guy i use to work with and he never did any thing with it. I should have held onto it.
