Any advice regarding elevator input in combination with flaps?
Thx.

flemsus, I checked my log book where I record the info. No mix with flaps down. 2% up elevators with gear down.

Been awhile since the elements have aligned.....time to fly, good weather, enthusiastic cinematographer, lol! My girls gift for fathers day!
Flying with Tacon Bigfoot 160 on 10s with MAS 18x10 prop. Pulls this hefty girl of 24 lbs nicely!
Cheers.

Hi,

Wow, nice! :-)
My Spitfire has abbout 11,6kg...also really heavy, but let`s see...maiden planned within the next weeks...but i have only a grass runway...
Seems you can fly really slowly with that weight :-)

Patrick

Finally had to Top RC Spitfire out to the field today. Yesterday when I got close to it, it growled and snapped at me. I think it wanted to go out and play. So checked over, charged the batteries last night. Wind was more are less down the runway. Had to use the electric starter to get it running as has not flown since Nov. 2019. Operated from the grass runway adjacent to the pave runway. I just can't keep it straight on the pavement. Take off was ok. All the maneuvers went well. Made a landing on the mains with half flaps on the grass runway with a straight roll out. Success. The plane has no problems operating off grass. The wheels are large and the gear is short which help prevent nose overs. Mine weights 22 lbs but does not "fly heavy." A young lady at the field took photos and videos of the plane in the air. Says she will e-mail them to me. If I get them I will try to post the pictures and videos.

Maidened the Spitfire 5 days ago. Perfect condition for the maiden.
AUW 23 lb. Has to add 3 lb of lead at the front. Flying with a Dualsky G4000 180kv electric motor and 12S 70C 5,000mAh batteries swinging a 21x12 Turnigy electric wood prop.
Castle Creations 160HV ESC data log shows drawing 102A max and giving 4,700W power.

Here is the link to the video of my 2nd flight.

Very nice. Please post a pic of how you fit 12s batteries! I could barely fit the Zippy Compact 5s x2 5000's as the compartment is so narrow. None of my other 5s or 6s batteries would fit...
Cheers.

I bought this battery tray from Gator RC. https://gator-rc.com/airplane-access...model-spitfire
This battery tray is a long tray. The batteries are placed in line, not parallel as shown in the photo.

Has anyone gotten down to an AUW close to the stated 16.8 lbs?

In some photos the fuse and wings appear smooth, with no detail, and in others there are details and panel lines. If I order one I wouldnwant the detailed version.

I am fairly certain that V2 added the molded panel lines, invasion stripes and carbon fiber strip along the inside of fuse. I don't think they sell V1 anymore. Just to verify you could call Mike at GatorRC. Good luck with your decision!! Oh, and good luck getting this under 17 lb. auw!! Dont think it would happen. Reading here the least I saw was about 22 lb.
Cheers, DSA

The pics you sent look great. I found this pic on another thread here on RCU. Full screened you can really see the details. I really want a 1/4 scale but this one looks so good. I wonder if it was difficult to strip and repaint without damaging the molding.

Carrera, all up weight of mine is 22 lbs. No way to come even close to 16.8 lbs with all the weight needed to get cg.

That's not heavy but it is a lot more than advertised. Does anyone remember the empty weight?

You got one! Awesome! I had my cg set right around 130mm. Just a nudge behind the molded panel line on the undersurface of wing.
As for the throws, I can't recall off hand. But I used the recommended throws for the H9 model.
Good luck!!

Thanks! I was pretty excited to find one near me. It's a gorgeous model. I'll look up the H9 manual. You felt they worked well? I'll set up high/mid/low rates and set expo around 35.

I maidened the Spitfire today. Lovely flying model with no vices except maybe that it doesn't want to come down. Lol My first flight was uneventful save for the landing. I had to do three go arounds and landed very long because I tried landing WITHOUT flaps. It definitely needs full flaps coming in. Second flight I tested full flap deflection and noticed no pitch changes. Tomorrow I'll just practice take offs and landings.

My set up is Eflite Power 160, Castle 100 amp esc, 8s 5000 20c lipo (4s2s 5000) and an APC 18x12e prop. I'll order better packs. The 20c packs are fine but something like 50-60c will be a little more powerful. ECalc quotes about 1700 watts on the 20c. My Spitfire weighs just a tick under 20 lbs so 2000 watts would be a bit better. May have to go to 9s or 10s.

Were the wood parts for the extended motor mount box section included for electric power included in the original kit? I want to improve access to my batteries.

Yes, my arf kit came with the electric motor mount that slid right over the existing firewall. Do you not have one installed on yours?

No. I bought mine already assembled from another modeler. He had it wet fuel powered.

Might be a moot point for now. I was up for the 5th flight. I had it up high for most of the flight re-trimming as I moved the lipos into the fuselage (the were formerly attached to the aluminum motor mount) and added a bit of nose weight. Telemetry told me that I was down to 3.79 per cell so I flipped the switch to drop the gear and then hit the flap switch. I did a cross field pass to see it the gear were down. They were not. I cycled them again and nothing. I figured on preparing for a belly landing knowing that the chin scoop would get obliterated. Set it into a right bank to line up for landing with about 100 feet of altitude when it locked into a left bank. I had no control. I watched it do a somewhat shallow spiral into the weeds around our field. It wasn't a loss of motor power. I have the Castle Edge to soft cut at 3.3v/cell. I cycled through the telemetry screens and found the problem. RX pack voltage 3.3 volts. It was a 5-cell 2000mAh nimh pack. It showed 5.6 on takeoff. I am pretty upset. It was flying great. I had the CG right at 130mm from the leading edge (right on the molded panel line) and it felt good. No pitch issues with full flap either. I just wanted to practice takeoffs and landing with the second lipo pack. Pretty bummed...

Does anyone who went gas/glo on theirs still have the wood parts for the electric mount? I'd be interested in buying it.

Thanks

Sorry for your loss, I feel your pain. I think I had pm'd you that I recently lost my spitty. Mine was a complete shatter unfortunately. Sounds like yours is salvageable if all you need is an electric motor box?? If you can't find one, I'm sure Mike at GatorRC could set you up.
good luck sir!

Horrible feeling we’ve all been there. I called Robart and they sold the last one a week ago. They did tell me middle of January more will come.
