Had another dead stick today with the Saito fg84/Keleo combo. The engine is baffled. Not sure if I'm getting enough air out the back of cowl. The Keleo does tend to block flow. Might be over-heating. Still trying to figure out. I believe the prop is a biela 3-bladed 22x10. Performance is fine...very scale like. Deadsticks are troubling.

Default fg84 baffled

Hi
My fg 84 with annulair exhausst is also baffled.
I have used the original mounting stands and moved forward the cowl + modification of the position of the false exhausst : it is no scale but i get more air out back of cowl.
Without this modification my motor was very hot.Now after flight i can put my fing on cylinders without burn me.
Other advantage : less weight add

Thank you Topgun. I'll play with that concept. I'm also thinking of going back to the strait exhaust that comes with the Saito.

Hi Jim. I opened the cowl flaps on mine , This allows plenty of air to move through. Also opened the mounting ring.

Ok, Ok, That's a good idea Tim. Do you have the Keleo exhaust ring in your Zero with the Saito FG 84?

Anyone have a good method to remove the tail decal numbers? Going to do a few changes to the model and I need to paint on a different tail number.

It really depends on what they are, how they were applied, and if they got clear coat after.

It's not easy to remove the stock graphics. If you look back, you'll see that I did. For some reason I didn't post the procedure. First it is best to get some of the clear coat off. I used a fine sandpaper sponge to do that. Than I used some acetone to get the graphic off. I don't think it's possible to get the numbers off without some of the green coming off with it. I matched up some green using Testor's paint and made it look good.

Has anyone using the FG-84R3 added any down thrust ? If so, how much and did it fly better?
Thanks,
Gary

Default Help mounting fg84r3 w/keleo ring

I see where some are mounting the fg84r3 with keleo ring and using stock standoffs. I am using what I think are the stock standoffs (aprox 3/8" thick). My problem is the exhaust dump spout is hitting the fake air scoop on the bottom of the fuse. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it?
Thanks in advance
Gary

You cut off the amount of the scoop you need to for clearance and then make a wooden plug fill in the front and color the plug black. If you look closely at some of the pictures previous in the thread you'll see that's what they did.

The Robart tail gear was not designed as a drop in fit. It is their stock rear retract. You will have to adopt it to the plane. The gear that was initially designed for it is an electric set from GatorRc

I did a DLE5 and it shook it apart within a dozen flights. Do Not recommend it!
I bought a new Gunfighter and a Roto85 inline twin that should be a perfect combo. If I ever get the time to put it together.

Hey Tim,
Did you eliminate the mounting ring completely and just leave the mounting blocks?
Did you have to extend the blocks for attaching the cowl? Looks like your cowl mounting screws are sitting next to the cowl flaps.

Thanks
jim

I used the mounting ring. I removed about 1/4" of the material on the inside of it to allow more air to pass through. No extending the blocks, they are stock . The bolt holes are about 3/8" in front of the flaps in solid cowling material..

Just wondering how much throw folks are getting out of the rudder? I can't seem to get much. Any help or pictures will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sorry if I'm late, I just installed the Robart tail wheel. A few mounting mods were required, but got it to fit and operate nicely.
