Top RC Zero from Gator R/C

The Robart struts are very durable but like you say they just don't compare astheticaly to the Sierra . The problem with the Sierra is the retract base is not a drop in fit . The retract base mounting footprint is longer and more narrow than that of the TopRC retract base so work needs to be done to the retract rails in the wing for the Sierra to go in . The TopRC and the Robart retract base have nearly an identical base footprint . The TopRC strut ends are 13mm . The Sierra and Robarts are both 1/2" struts ends

My Feedback: (-1)
Interesting info about the Sierra mounts. I haven't compared them, only seem them from a distance on a Carf model a few years ago.
I got the TopRc retracts to accept the slightly smaller Robart Strut. Drilled and tapped a set screw to prevent it from rotating. Worked like a charm.
thanks for the sierra's details.

Hi guys. In preparation for RC Warbirds event in Poland next week I decided to make my Zero more scale. Added some stencils made of beer tin and scratched with needle:

The detail is amazing !
I am just installing electron retracts into mine, I have made ply boxes for them to sit in as they are not as big as the top rc units.
Any advice would be great.

I have made these ply boxes and glued them to the hardwood I think they will help with any twisting.
They now sit flush to the original mount surface.....I guess I will know if its ok soon.
I like the aluminium idea Darod if this does not work I will try it.
cheers

Your idea looks good, should be strong enough. I have 85deg trunion retraction angle in mine. Together with self made struts it makes really scale appearance. Recently I swapped controller for RS-200, thus I was able to set retraction delay of one strut as all original zero's had.Which struts are you gonna use? Toprc or other brand?

Hey Darod
That works great ! I think I might have to do the same.
Im using the original top rc struts they have been good for me as long as I land smooth. I had a with the wind landing(Arrival) at a scale comp a while back and broke one strut and ripped the gear out of the other. Lesson learn't.
cheers

Unfortunately it wasn't possible to see all Zero's in the air at once. The 3rd one you can see on the picture was static display only. No engine mounted yet. Beside, this is masterpiece scratch built model of my colleague. Attention to details is amazing, in fact his zero was great inspiration for me to tweak up my Top RC.
Here is the link to building thread. It's in polish language but at least you can see the pictures:

Few shots from today's flight taken by friend o mine. Several dozen of flights on the clock with great performance of the plane. Engine also runs better after repair and no issues so far.
