Seagull Junkers CL-1

Seagull Junkers CL-1
I saw this really cute warbird the other day and plan to order one. Calling a warbird cute might ruffle some feathers. There are some videos on YouTube but not too many.

The airfoil appears to be flat and the plane putts putts around in a very maneuverable fashion flying on four stroke glow. I plan to put a Saito FG21 on mine.

It's actually a model of a homebuilt Bowers Flybaby which was modified by the builder to look a little bit like a Junkers CL-1! Not sure if Seagull are aware of this and are trying to pass it off as something it is not or if they just did not do much research before deciding to produce the model. Either way it's not a bad looking airplane, just not really a model of the Junkers.

Rather interesting, I found an image in The Big Book of Planes this Junkers CL.1. It looks like that's what Seagull modeled. I would hate buying a nonexistent warbird and having to explain it to the guys.

PCT, Buy it! It is a real warbird... well a real airplane anyway. It is what I would call a "Tongue in Cheek Airplane". It is fun. This Bower Fly Baby was re-covered and painted into a Junkers CL-1 back in 2002. It became the Day/Gauld-Galliers Fly Baby. A truly menacing war machine!!!! The Trench Strafer. Loaded with 3 Spandaus, nobody wants to mess with this machine. It flew for years in Great Britain as part of the "Great War Display Team". A second fly baby was outfitted similarly and is known as the Robb Metcalfe "Junkers".
I think Seagull knows exactly what it is as they offer the Bowers Fly Baby in the same size. Same airplane except the tail shape and graphics. How could they not know as they are using 95% of the same kit content for both. If you want to get one, I can special order it for you and have it dropped shipped to your home. I am a Seagull dealer through SIG and have brokered quite a few airplanes this way.
I was in contact with John Day in 2007 and got a photo pack and color documentation since I had some interest in recreating this little machine. Never got to it as with many things in life. Maybe someday. Leo

Thank you, Leo. That was great!
Skyshark RC offers the plane and will be shipping mid Feb. I understand that the Fly Baby is a good flyer. I just might buy this Junkers for that alone.
