Each flap has a slight dihedral bend in it , so I built each one in two pieces and epoxied them together at the correct angle.

I made the flap hinges from 1/8" brown G10 board. The pivot pins are 4-40 bolts with locknuts.

Jim,

The flaps and hinges are look so neat on your Me 110.
I just got the board, not G-10 but I think should be very similar, gotta try it on my SBD ailerons.

Thanks, Wallace, I'm building the ailerons now and I'm going to do it the same way, except the plan shows the hinge pivot a little further back from the LE of the aileron. I guess that is because it goes up as well as down.

Beautiful plane!! I love to see aircraft in the circuit that you don't see everyday. Keep up the good work, will be checking your progress!

Thanks Chris. That's what's keeping me so motivated on this, the fact that it is so different than anything I've built before.

A friend of mine and I are building a P-38 (check out "Ziroli P-38 construction" string), I wanted to do an FW-190 but we decided on doing a twin instead. Once we get the 38 done, then I'm looking at the 190. Have always been facinated with German aircraft. Are there any plans that you know of out there for a JU-88? That would be a cool aircraft!

Falconjet,

I've been following your P38 build with great interest. I just got the Ju88 plans from Don Smith recently. It's really nice. There seems to be more construction info on them than the 110 plans. I would have built the Ju88 first but I already had the cowls and canopy for the 110. Maybe next year. Besides I don't think he has the accessories available for the Ju88 yet.

Hi Jim.

I will order a set of the Don Smith ju-88 plan,do you know what kind of rotating scale retracts that will fit this plane?
I am going to ask PCK to cut it fore me and i am going to built the a5 version of the ju-88.

Ketil,

I'm not sure exactly what retracts would work. I didn't study the plan that closely, but Robart probably has something that will work. You can look on their website. They have a few different variations of the rotating ones.

The plane looks like a pair of Zenoah G26s would work nicely, or something similar.

Keep us all posted as you build it!

Thanks for the website on this, I'm always interested of wreck locations of historic aircraft that, after 60 years, are being found today. Can you imagine what's out there that hasn't been discovered yet?

A little trivia of the JU-88:

Although the appearence of the engine nacelle's indicate that the aircraft had radial engines, they in fact had inlines. The radiators were oval, that's why they looked like they had radials!

Just a little tidbit of history for ya.

Also, since Germany had such a great success with the ME-109, they figured that a twin engine version of it would be better, so they came out with the ME-110. Unfortunetly the 110 proved not to be what they hoped for. It's still a good looking airplane though, very clean lines and a classic aircraft. Getting anxious to see yours completed!

keep the site ,updates will come.
some of the ju 88 had radials similar to the fw-190 bmw 801 engine ,but they were few.
The summer of 2004 they are going to take out one me 109 and a he-111 from a freshwater lake in Norway
they have not found 5 ju-87 stukas that should be in the lake.
The Germans landed these planes in the spring,on the frozen lake, they never tok off again due to the ice melting,
so they went down when the ice coulden`t hold them anymore.
it looks that they are in werry good condition.
the he-111 is going to the us .

Hope to see an HE-111 airworthy again, the CAF lost the last flying example this last summer I think in Montana. Beautiful airplane. Will keep checking the site for more updates.
Thanks for your updates, keep them coming!

Aileron hinging. The wire is for lining up the hinge tabs that are in the ailerons.

One of the ailerons in place. The hinge arms are anchored in balsa blocks.

Tim:

I also have been eyeing the Me110 plans. I have been considering modify the plans to build a Me410. Any thoughts.

Where in Ohio is Brecksville? I live in the Cincinnati area.

I'm not sure how much modification would be needed to the 110 plans. I would check the 3-views carefully to compare the two. The 410 is definitely a cool plane---kind of Mosquito-like.

I live near Cleveland. If a warbird rally actually happens down in Dayton I would definitely try to make it to that.

Guys

I have been watching this build in person every time I go over to Jim's house. The first time I saw the plane, he had the fuse framed out. Every time I have gone after that, he has had more and more done. Now, I will admit that I am new to building RC aircraft, in fact I will get my trainer for Christmas, but what I have seen so far on this build has been awesome.

Thanks, Larry! I just got the aileron servos today from Tower and installed them in the wing outer sections. I also permanently mounted the stab. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get a chance.

While waiting for my aileron servos I decided to fit the wings to the fuse. When I finished that I flipped the plane over and placed the tail and canopy on to see what it looked like. Those are some long wings!
