Does anybody fly the yellow zero with an OS BGX engine. It is a 35cc glow engine. What about the yellow P47? I have one of these engines and would like to buy a yellow airplane.
What is a cost effective way to transport these planes overseas? Courier service would be to expensive.

I had a BGX in a Yellow zero a few years ago. It handled the plane well. It took off in about 150' - 200' would loop from level flight and would maintain a sustained climb angle of 30 to 40 degrees. It was a good flying model until one day it rolled onto its back right after take off and made a Kamikaze dive into the road leading to the flying field. I never could find the reason for the incident as all of the radio gear worked properly after the crash. Maybe it thought the road was an American carrier deck.

I have both a Yellow Zero and P-47D. The Zero is powered happily by a Zenoah G-38 (38cc) gas engine. The P-47 has a larger cowl and has a G-45 (45cc) for motivation. The P-47 is a good size plane and still hides all of the G-45 under the cowl - I've seen other flyers put G-62's in the plane also. Both planes require a heavy weight in the nose or they will come-out tail heavy. If you go with the OS, you are going to have to either put lead in the nose or move all your electronics as forward as possible.

Hi,
The BGX works fine, especially if you don't mind having the power-to-weight ratio only a little more than scale. Some guys can't conscience the ratio being anything less than 1 to 1 on warbirds, but if you're not one of them, BGX will do fine. We ship kits to the Pacific Rim all the time, but I don't think there is any really 'cost effective' way. It's expensive.

Thanks for the reply Shaun and guys... Reading between the lines I think a 45cc gas engine would be better. I will probably buy the P47 and Zero when I am in Florida in April to watch Top Gun.

I have a BME 50cc in mine. I still had to add 3lbs to the nose. The flying weight is 24.5 all up. The BME is way powerful and the only reason I installed it is because I already had it. I think you will be plenty happy with a 45cc.
