Default Suppliers for giant scale wheels

Hi All,

I'm just getting into giant scale and will be starting off with a Top Flite Corsair. An unexpected hurdle arose when I went to order some Robart 4 1/2" wheels for the main gear. Duh! Robart doesn't make anything larger than 4" unless you want the aluminum hub numbers for about sixty bucks each. OUCH!

Any suggestions on where I could get some "reasonably scale" looking wheels in a 4 1/2" diameter? I'll pay the higher price if need be but I thought I'd run this past the RCU community first.

Thanks in advance.

Al

Check in to CB Associates. They have wheels all the way up to 7 inch and only run about 40 bucks a pair. They are great wheels and will carray a plane up to 50 pounds easy. I have used them for years. Best bang for the buck. Actually cheaper to order direct than thru the hobby shop. Their number is 510-783-4868.

Check out the wheels at Vailly Aviation's website. If some of you Corsair experts could take a look and let us new corsair wannabees know if they approximate the scale look that'd be great. They are 24 bucks for a 4.5" wheel and 33 bucks mounted with tire (price each).

Like Jeff, I recommend the the CB Assoc. wheels. I've got a set on a TF Bonanza and think that they're great, very, very sturdy.

Al,
Take your pick from the suggestions mentioned above. The full scale Corsair and Hellcat tire was 32"x8" so a "scale" tire size would be 4"x1" for 1/8th scale. Do the math for the giant scale. None of the current manufacturers make a "true to scale" wheel for the Corsair/Hellcat in any size. They are all too thick among other issues. Good luck with your project!

Jeff Stultz
PS I use Du-bro for "sorta scale" wheels. Big enough and price is OK.
