Default P-51 flaps

I have a little delema at least for me. I have an old TF P-51 kit and have it mostly framed up and most of the wings built up. My problem is on the flaps where do they hing at on the real P-51. Are they kindof like the P-47 or is the piviot point a little back from the leading edge of the flap. I just don't know can you help.[]

Well you can do a search on www.dogpile.com or you could do a google search. But I think you'll like one of these two books that show a lot of detail.
Walk Around P-51 Mustang a Squadron Signals book.
Aero Details North American P-51 Mustang.
Both books show a lot of closeup photographs of such stuff. Aero Detail is the better of the two, I think, and a bit more expensive as well.

nchrome, The P-47 flaps are actually fowler type of flaps and the P-51 are not. The mustang flaps hinge on the leading edge of the flap section. Check out Mustangsmustangs.com for pictures of stangs.

ORIGINAL: BobH
The mustang flaps hinge on the leading edge of the flap section.
Which would mean that the hinge point would be the center of the flap's L/E radius, like a rudder?

Thanks guys thats the info that I needed for my P-51. Now I can finish the wing and get the wing flange finished sos I can glass the fuse and get this bird done and ready for spring. I also have about five other planes that need to be finished but am trying to finish this one first.

rich, to answer your question.. yes. Like a rudder, sorta. The hinge is right on the leading edge as much as practical.
