Top Flite Corsair Canopy
Anyone know of a full bubble type canopy (F4U-1D or later) that will fit the Top Flight Giant Scale Corsair? Kit canopy is the -1A thru early D model with the two top rails. Byrons (Iron Bay) is the same as TF.

RE: Top Flite Corsair Canopy
Corsair did not have a bubble canaopy on a production bird to my knowledge, they did have an experimental version with the bubble canopy but it was never put into production
so can't say I know of a bubble canopy that would suit

The Goodyear F2G Corsair did indeed have a bubble canopy. The canopy is very similar to a P-47D bubble canopy. I think he's referring to the canopies of later Corsairs as opposed to the birdcage of the early F4U-1's.

Century Jet has a 1/5 scale corsair with the -1D frameless canopy. Theirs is a 100" wingspan version, so I don't know if it would fit Top Flite's 1/5 scale size.

correction correction
F2G did have the bubble canopy, first flew march 22, 1944 and an order for 418 aircraft rxd. There were however development and performance issues as well as the end of the war which led to cancellation of the order. Only 5 were built of the F2G-1 & F2G-2
these were powered by the huge R-4360-4 @3000 hp takeoff power
quite a few differences in this version, larger fin and rudder, lenghened nose and different shape . . .
be a very nice version to model and sure to cause lots of interest at meets . . .

Some F4U-4s and/or 4Bs were built with bubble canopies and flown during the Korean War. My Avatar is a picture of an F4U-4 (VMA- 312) revving up for take off from the Aircraft Carrier Bataan in the Spring of 1953. It clearly shows the bubble canopy. I didn't take this picture and I can't find the URL for it. If you are interested in seeing a larger version you can find it by searching the web for VMF-312.
