Default Hitec Servos

I have heard good things about Hitec servos. They are less expensive than Futaba and JR and hold up prety good. What would be a good one to uses on ailerons and flaps for a 1/5 Spitfire?

I say old chap, do you fancy flying under the bridge ?

Yes on Hitecs !, I use mainly the 5645MG Digitals with very good success. At least one crapped out, right out of the box. But never any trouble since. The HD 625/645's are good too. 605's I've stripped gears twice.

Have used Hitec almost exclusively for 15 years. Never had one fail. In my 1/5 Spit, I used the old 605, now the 635 for flaps and ailerons.

Just did a search an only two threads came up. I'll do some research. Thanks!

I use a lot of Hitecs and have not had one fail yet, unless it was crashed. I use 605's for flaps and ailerons, but as Jeff stated they are no longer available. I think the 635 may be the replacements. I dont really think digitals are nedded on a warbird. You don't tend to need full tavel & high holding power for long periods of time.

What's going on with Karbonite? Should I stay with a metal gear? The 635 has karbonite and puts out 83oz of torque. I'm not sure what is in the 605 for gear, but MPI has them listed in their catalog. The 605 produces 91 in oz of torque, I think I prefer the 605 if I can get them. Who gives the best price on Hitec Servos?

605's don't re-center worth beans. Pick a different one for flight control surfaces.

the 635 is a stronger karbonite gear over the old 605. According to Hitec, the torque value on the 635 is physicall tested, where the old 605 was calculated. The 635 is actually stronger and center better than the old 605. You cannot get 605's unless you find a stash, Hitec no longer produces them.

Check out a thread I posted to Hitec on 1/9/03 about the discontinued Hitec 605BB. Search: "Hobbico CS-65 is a Hitec 605 BB". I love the 605BB even though it has gotten a bad rap on centering. The highly refined may notice this deficiency in the air, but I never have. I've used more than twenty 605BB's over the years on 3 different airplanes and I just love them. Now that they are gone you can still get them disguised as Hobbico CS-65's. Same thing, just a new brand. So now I buy Hobbico CS-65 servos. I am sure Hitec is still making some money off it even if they won't say.

I have had good luck with HS625MG's for flaps and HS705MG for the rudder......I have found some slight irregularities with centering.....I still use only Fut 9202/9304 for ailerons and elevators........no centering issues and no failures with any of my Warbirds...........Bill.......

[8D] I have been using the 605 servos for as long as they have been out there. I have had no problems with them, period. I have had a couple of stripped gears, but always after a crash, never just stripped.....I haven't even had issues with the centering. I am not sure I would claim to even be able to notice it if I did....

I have also used the 545 servos with good service from them. All in all, I think I would just say that I have been very happy with Hi-Tec.

I am using 3 of the HS-635HBs on the tail feathers of my 33% Bücker Jungmeister and really like them. The centering is excellent and they are very fast. I'm using HS-645s on the ailerons, 1 per side, 2 ailerons per servo. These are very good servos. I use Hitec servos on all 3 of my Warbirds and have never had a problem with them. I haven't seen the need to go to digital servos.
