Jerry Bates p40

Nice plans, good parts fit, and accurate outline. The only big drawback is finding gear that will fit into it. I don't think the Robart gear will work, too big. The plans show Dave Platt retracts which have to be modified in order to rotate. The glass accessories are not spectacular either but are useable. If you can afford it save yourself some headache and get on the list for the new Yellow Aircraft P-40 kit. Unless of course you wanted to do the B/C version in which case the Bates it is! Best of luck whatever you decide.

Guys,
If you need quality retracts for the Bates P-40, give
Sierra Precision Components a call. They have rotating
retracts that will drop into the Bates P-40. They come with
struts and all the proper angles. I have a set in my P-40
and they work great. They are not listed on the site yet,
but they do have them.

I am building a Jerry Bates P-40B (albeit very slowly). I bought the Century Jet Models retracts for it which are the ones recommended by Jerry. Haven't gotten to the stage to install them yet, so I can't say much about them, although they look great!

I would go with the Ziroli P-40 I have built 8 of them and they fly great. Best of all you can get everything from Nick and he even has a glass package for it if you want to go that route.
