I bought one from a guy off Ebay, a FunAero, 1/6 scale S.E.5a it's a better kit...all laser cut parts. I'd shop around...check out the FunAero site, it's a little more expensive but worth it.
I was able to mount my O.S. FS 91 Surpass right side up, lots of extra bucks...I figure a year of work and about $700. she'll fly next summer. I'll try to post a pic here, she's covered but not complete. I might consider their 1/4 scale S.E.5a after I finish Balsa USA's 1/4 Sopwith Pup. I like it slow, Ken

Just finished my SE5a by Dynaflite. I love this plane. I am not a very good builder (No patience) but I had fun doing this one. I flew it for the first time yesterday. I have a new favorite plane to fly. I could not believe how easy it was to fly, smooth, responsive, etc etc et al. You can see from the pictures that I am not a very good painter either but it looks good to me and flys great, what else can I ask? (oh yeah, and the kit cost 119.00 so it should come in way less than 700.00, I have an ASP 120 I purchased on Ebay for 150.00 but I am sure that an OS70 would do just fine, I fly at 1/4 throttle) Any other questions just ask.

When I said I've spent $700. for the kit I meant for everything, radio equip, engine, covering, extra, etc.
There are allot of great kits out there and you get what you pay, and work for...a great plane, this is 1/6 scale and will do the 1/4 by B usa. enjoy, ken

That is a great looking plane. I like the removable cowl. But, I wouldnt say it was a better kit than the Dynaflite. I really love mine. I wouldnt mind building that one someday also though.

A couple of my WWI planes. The Eindecker is a BalsaUSA 80inch and the Dynaflite 64inch. Both fly great. The Eindecker has a 25cc Leafblower conversion on it.

I did a little checking on FunAero planes. I have come to the conclusion........well, WOW says it all. I want an Albatross DIII. They are pricey compared to the Dynaflite about twice the price but the detail is great. (ok, I am talking about the SE5a as Dynaflite does not at this time have an Albatross) I can see an order being placed in the very near future. If you want a in-expensively priced "Fun"scale SE5a I say get the Dynaflite. Especially if this is your first WWI or bipe. Easy to build and inexpensive to finish. But if you want alot more scale detail go with FunAero. Ok, thats my two cents worth....or three or four.

My thoughts and feeling exactly....I wasn't putting your plane down...my point is that the funaero kits are more involved plus they're laser cut. When I get a chance I'll post more pics of this great plane. thanx, ken

nice looking bi's....Probably go with a Zenoah G26 1.55 Gas w/ Bisson exhaust and 18 inch prop in the Pup...will be my first gasser and looking forward to it. Looking for a snoopy dog pilot for the kids.
An interesting point on this project...I'm cutting the fuselage in half right behind the cockpit. Adding another F-6 former and extra support doublers...servos for elevator and rudder will be in the tail...I'll be able to transport with both wings and flite wires intact and tail section installed at the field. Got the idea from RC Modeler march 2004 issue. Anyone else done this? ken

A friend and I each built the 1/4 scale pup according to plans and both came out very tail heavy. We had to add about a pound of lead on the firewall to balance so I would be very careful on adding additional weight in the tail such as servos and other radio equipment. We each have G 23s as power and it is more than adequate for flying.
Good luck on the project, you will enjoy it when finished

lol, guess I am better than I thought........got two of em.......I don't have a picture of the pup fully assembled. Let me know if you want any close up or detail shots as I can arrange for them. Also, I used the Balsa USA olive drab covering and found a perfect paint match for it. It is Krylon camo paint and is what I used on the wheels.

Ken, Interesting concept, but I must agree with DNR. These planes are very short coupled and can come out tail heavy. I didn't need any lead but I did build very light in the back and kept everything as far forward as possible. Even built a battery box on the fire wall and used a heavy spinner nut. What did RC modeler say about this?

Great pics guys and I'll try to answer all your questions in another thread under 1/4 Sopwith Pup. I've had allot of interest in the project from others and desided to start it's own thread. Keep the pics coming and I'll do like wise with my project, ken

kaksnapper-- a guy at the field cut the fuse on his pup just like you were talking about.looked easy to do. the flying wires all stay in tact. he says he has no roblems what so ever. i do know that he has to disconnect the elevator and rudder pushrods though.
