Old Tom

Tryed to post last nite but sys would not let me and I don't have a clue as to why

About the chin piece coupla of ways both alot of work, I have done both on different birds. First if you have the ABS cowl that came with the kif with care you can cut out the lower part to fit acros and reshape with a little heat, and make the stand off's out of wood and glass it all together, next is to sculpet on out of blue foam add a layer of glass and Install, or with the foam part sand and fill till it is glassie smoth and use it as a mold ,from it you have to make a female mold and then make your part with casting risen and microbloons.

thre outher option is to try to contact aero-tec (Pete may have the e-mail or phone) they didi have a kit that was vary nice mabe a bit spendy but great quality of parts. have not seen there add in a long time and some rummers they were going out of bus.

Another option would be to PM G-Pete he may have a better plan or ideas

Hope this helps

Cheers Bob T

Thanks Bob.

I talked to the guy at Aerotech in the begining of January. He is trying to sell the business and said to keep checking the web sight. They will post the change of ownership when it happenes.
That was a great web site and lots of good stuff for scale builders.Good luck to him in his retirement.

The paint color is called Zinc Chromate.I used Model Master brand #1734.There are other brands. They do differ with shadeing between brands.
I put down 2 coats of silver then smeared on the Zinc Chromate with a brush. It gave it a nice chipped paint effect.
you can find my pictures. on Pg. 248.

You built 2 planes in 1 winter! I'm impressed. They look good to.

There are many shades of zinc chromate. Some more yellow some greener. Tom is right on, put down a coat of silver then the zinc chromate. It gives it a realistic look.

The Cub covering thing is done not as nice as I would like but it is just a cub, got the stripe down the sides and have started installing stuff still have to pick up some cub decals for some eye dressing , will most likly have it done and ready to balance this w/e

Sure glad there no rivets on the cub speaking of rivets are you seeing 3 at a time yet

We are having a heat wave to day it might get to 30 deg F the cold is finaly getting to me if it last another week I just may go in and hibernate[&o]

That looks really good Tom. It takes a little bit but I think it's worth the time. It also makes a sturdy mount and adds a measure of safety.

that is what I was thinking, though also have some very fine round tip files that could be used, will try both and see what works.

yup and that is just one side, does not include stab, fin or cowl either!

Bob T

think I was last Sat.

No more progress to date, been a bit knackered of an evening of late. Weekend will get in and do some more.

Well Cubs are still important mate, I have about 40 rivets on my Cub but used small dress makers pins for those, cut them town to about 1/4" long. Tap in a hole using a pin, drop of med CA on the cut down pin shaft then tap it in flush - Voila!

Got all the Horton servo mounts and servo hatches finished.( I like saying Horton servo mounts.)
Glassing the ailerons and the flaps. Then all the glassing will be finished.
Got tired of running to the hobby shop for small screws so I orderd enough to start my own fasteners business.
Now I 'll be sanding the glass for a few days so won't have much to post about so you new guys its time for you to chime in.

Tom,
make sure you wear a good quality breathing mask when sanding that stuff as epoxy resin is nasty stuff.
cheers

Got myselfe a good mask you can even wear it for painting.
Sanded the fuse. It took all day.Since I had a new mask, had to try and spray some primer.Couldn't smell a thing.
The fuse looks good, will only need minor tuch up with spot putty.
The picture of the fiberglass hatch cover that, I made 3 months ago and haven't been able to find for 2 days of looking, turned up right where I put it so I can find it. You guys don't have those kinds of problems, do you?
Maybe I'll try to figure out how to make the switch housing next.Do you guys think I should make enough room for 4 swithes incase the plane lasts long enoug to put smoke on it?[sm=idea.gif]
