What? If you finish the 47 you'll be throwing rocks at the rest of your planes.LOL

ok a bit more detail on the SF issue.

Was coming in on finals, about 12 ft in the air just at the threshold, seemed a nice4 normal approach.

Wind was constantly changing direction and while it was not strong it was strong enough to make you fly the opposing circuit when it did change. I suspect as I came over the threshold it swung 180 degrees to become a tail wind and essentially the model stalled causing the wing drop. As soon as the wing dropped I did two things, full opposite aileron and applied power. It did correct quite well and was wings level for a second then opposite wing started to drop but I corrected and had some power coming on. By this stage the increase in power had caused it to baloon and I then reduced power and tried to get it settled but ended up I think causing it to again stall and have a very heavy arrival.

In hindsight and hinsight is a wonderful thing I should have applied full power and gone around again. I guess I was nervous as I had 4 attempts on first flight to land and simply wanted it "down" got my wish and as they say be careful of what you wish for!

Flaps, with full flaps deployed and trimmer for level flight it drops quite a lot and I have to put on a fair amount of up trim. I noticed on the goa around I left gear and full flaps on with full throttle I was holding a bit of back stick to keep it level, then as I started to turn for base leg I took power back to half and it did not need the back pressure.

Same fuel tank, same location.

cheers
P

anyway workshop is not set up enough and as it is about to get packed up and unsure when we will be in another place it could be almost Christmas before I am able to do much of anything.

Tom,
I'm with you mate, don't like the look, feel or functionality of the new RCU software. For example quotes do not work as they used to, you no longer see who is in looking at the threads or in a forum sucgh as "Warbirds"

Hope you are going to sort these issues RCU . . .

cheers
Peter

that sucks Bob, I did that to my Astrohog a few years back - twice but at different fields.

Have also tried it with the 1/4 scale Cub!

Bugger about the radio. Could be tme to get a new one perhaps?

I have been using a JR 12X since 2008 and love it but getting hold of the old 2.4ghz DSM Rxrs is now a challenge as JR has gone over the newer technolgy that frequency hops. Can't afford a new radio nor all the Rxrs!

I also bought a used 12X last fall. Great price. I'm using Spectrum and JR receivers. The new Spectrum receivers will work with the DSM JR Transmitters.

Yeah it's all easy in hindsight, a go around was probably the way to go. I was told when I first started flying bigger warbirds that unless evrything is right, just go around. These models have too much inertia to be trying to fiddle with speeds late in the approach. Since learning to fly full size I have also learnt that you won't get a good landing from a bad approach.

Thats a real bugger about the Sea Fury. My vote is just get stuck in when you can and get the Jug flying.

Cheers

Mick

G'day Mick,
concur totally! Have not had a lot of heavy metal flying in last 2 years which doers not help either. Anyway once I get my workshop back I will be getting stuck into both. Will order the wing kit and plans but most likely finish the 47 first as it is soooooo close to being completed.

Only requires some work on one set of gear rails and painting, system fit out and go fly it. Could probably do all of that in 2 to 3 weeks if I had my workshop set up

cheers
Peter

ROTFL............You are so funny Oz. I just started a Ziroli P-47, the 92" version. Fiberglass fuse and Eureka Aircraft is cutting a foam wing for me. I'm betting I'm done building, and have the maiden flight in the books before you maiden the hanger Queen.........Really, I'm just kidding. I've learned so much from this forum over the last 20 years, ROTFL AGAIN. I'm looking forward to a pic of her all done and primped up for her coming out party.........

too funny mate. If I ever get my workshop set up again then there is little work to be completed on this thing. Need to reinforce the landing gear rails then paint. System fitout and it is done.

Maybe I will tie a pink ribbon around it, then again.

Well I finally made it to my first warbird meet. I don't know if it's appropriate to call WWI planes Warbirds. Since it's my story I can call them anything I want. LOL. Got into my first Mock Dog Fight. Now that was fun. The building skills of those guys was phenomenal. Had such a great time that I got motivated (Well sorta motivated) to get back on my 47. I have plans on converting the retracts to Electric over the winter so I've been putting it on the back burner. Every time I think about finishing the Jug back up I have to remind myself to have patience. The schedule is for the winter. Actually I have all my planes fying except the Jug. I will definitely have a re maiden in the spring.

Here are a couple of picture videos from our Dawn Patrol. Enjoy.

PS. Just incase you don't know. The short fat guy with his tung hanging out is me.

While I'm in the mood for posting . Here is a picture vid of my Fly In the first weekend in August. Eugene's P-47 was the center attraction during the noon time demo. That plane flies great. Recently Eugene (Howard Martz. Radio Operator on B-17 and C-47) Turned 87 years old. Our friend Bob Parker flew his plane in the show.

Happy Birthday Howard!

Guys,

Have read this thread for ages working up to opening the box of my TF GS P47 to crack on as next project. Decided to build the razorback rather than bubble top (as an aside, the provided bubbletop canopy appears to be inaccurately framed!) but dont know where to pick up a razorback canopy in UK. Others I have asked simply say: 'you should have bought the right version first off!' You guys will know that the '60' version comes with razorback as standard whilst GS is bubbletop out of the box!!! Help please!

for the record the supplied canopy is VERY scale but you have to add the scale skirt to it. I and others have done by creating a fiberglass frame and skirt that sits over the canopy and is molded to it.

I made my own canopy out of fiberglass for the 1/5th scale version. That's the route I would take......
