haha mate, can get a bit like that.

Went out fishing yesterday up at Maryoochydore, mate a has a tinny. Oz101 for small boat with an outboard motor. Caught a couple of reasonable fish too.

Of interest we were anchored under the double bride and a Wilga on floats taxis by under the bridge on its way to take off on the river.

See photos! First one shows the Wilga taxiing in and my mate Dennis, (OldDC) One of my ugly mug too at the end.

Not something you expect to see while you are fishing.

A Wilga on floats? Wow that is neat! Can't imagine fishing then a cool plane goes by on top of it. Nice one. Happy New Year to all of you down under.

Pete,

A Happy New Year's to you. I've never seen a Wilga before. My sort of plane "not pretty" but functional. Nice pictures and good for you to go out fishing with you mate. Good for the soul to do that.

thanks guys, hope the sore heads have subsided?

My tooth has started to play up again so moping about feeling not very happy and rather cranky. Tried pouring Grand Marnier into the corner of my mouth to soak it in the alcohol, numbed it for a bit.

That Grand Marnier works for a bit and the after effects can be so bad you forget about the tooth hot saying, but been there, being the old geezer that I am.

Well got all of the repairs done on the weeks and ready for paint, now I need the weather to warm up a bit to get that done then it is on to glassing the Corsair.

Oh and Santa left me a G/P Extra 300 ARF to replace the old dragon lady, but my plate is to full to do anything except start gathering the extra bits that will be needed

One other thing for the new year the Ve-hick-cal is giving me fits so may in up putting things on hold till I get that sorted out, But I am looking on the bright side.

It is nice and clear this morning, lite wind and would be a great day to go fling, but it's -12deg's

Cheers bob T

Hello to the Thread,

I just started building the TF .60 size P-47 Gold Kit for a friend and wanted to say hello. I'll be checking for tips over the next few weeks and also want to post questions as they come up. Looks like this is the best, and a long running P-47 build so I hope to not be a nuisance.

also this is the giant size, not the smaller one so not everything here will be relevant.

ok weather still too humid for painting so P47 on backburner while I do the 2nd Vampire.

Test flew the FMS 1700mm F4U yesterday. Nice model, easy to take off and fly. No super powerful but expected that with the scale prop. 3 4 min flights, used about 1600mA out of the 5000 mA 6S Lipo.

Lost the cockpit/canopy on last flight and it came down in the middle of some heavily wooded scrub area that is teeming with brown snakes. Spent an hour looking for it with no luck and was worried about the joe blakes.

So have to order a new cockpit/canopy now.

Hi Pete
Your wright about the relevance on the size , but I figured with a pic's we might be able to help a fellow a bit.

I/We heard on the news you have some big fires going, hope they don't get your way, back a long way when I lived southern cal my mo lived in an area that had a fire and we had to de-capa-tate a passel of those joe blakes.

Good to hear about your Corsair, I like the way mine flies just wish we had a bit more runway it can get you a real pucker factor in a hurry, if you get one of those little checkers for the lipo's you can extend your flight times till you get a reading of 3.62 V per cell that is what we are doing with our HOG'S and 2200's batt's

We got a inch or two of that white stuff and cold so no painting till it warms up a bit the shop is just to small to paint in even with an air-brush

Bob,
the Grand Marnier helped for a bit, took the edge off and only had a couple so not quite enough to wipe myself out. Went to the Chemist, think you call them a drug store. Got some stronger pain killers with Codeine. that bombed me out and I was quite garbled apparently.

On some more antibiotics to keep in under control till I can get back to the dentist.

As for the smaller 47 Think he is best to keep it simple and stock at that size, far too easy to build weight up. Bigger one can handle a pit of pork around the middle but don't think the little one could so much.

Yes huge bushfires down around Adelaide, about 1500 miles from Brisbane so no issues for us up here. About 30 homes destroyed and they have 34 aircraft of various types water bombing, even a C-130.

We have lots of runway, about 300m just have lots of trees to the South and the West plus a motorway to the East which cramps the flying. The trees create a lot of turbulence as well which can make landing "interesting".

Will have another look for the cockpit/canopy part again on Sunday. Hate losing things like that.

Do you have a model or part number for that checker?

No white stuff here, just lots of Summer rain making it rather muggy.

Had to spend $1062 on the Discovery yesterday, alternator had failed and being Landrover everything is run by a computer. Charge the battery right up only gets you about 30 mins of driving then everything shuts down and you are stuck. As the Landrover specialist is way over the other side of town, about 50km away I elected to have it put on the back of a tilt tray truck and have it driven over. $145

New Alternator $750 plus $185 to have it fitted but at least the Disco is now running again.

Brad & Jim with the smaller 47s, if you can get your models no more then 10lbs they should fly sweetly. 11lbs will fly ok but watch that sink rate on landing.

Jim, if you are just starting the build look at doing some work to make the tail areas lighter but cutting out a bit of excess material from ribs and formers back there. Every bit saved means less nose weight required.

If you need nose weight get your battery packs as far forward in the fuse as you can. If you need to add lead then add it inside the cowl lip right at the front.

Best of luck.

What he said +1 don't have a clew on the length of the fuse, but on the 1/5 scale 1oz, saved in the tail mean's 6oz not needed in the nose.

cheers Bob T

Oz,

Sucks brown water to hear you lost your canopy and that you were hanging out with the Brown Snakes. Where I grew up I had to deal with rattlers at every step but those browns are just a nasty breed. At least I could hear them when they got a little pissed. Pisser about the Rover too. The wifey's Nissan Murano has an exhaust leak that is going to cost me a 1/5 scale warbird to fix. She doesn't seem to find the same humor in how I equate expenses. Too bad for her unless she wants to pay up. Nice Discovery by the way. It reminds me of my 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser I used to have.

Bob,
have fun is what this wonderful hobby is all about and spending time with our mates, talking nonsense and lies as we men do. Great stuff. You keep on having fun mate.

Z, mate yes browns, especially the Easten Brown is a rather nasty creature, they delight in waiting for you almost be upon them then will rear up and strike. They are known to chase you as well and are darn fast! I got chased by one when I was about 15 or so.

The Disco is all fixed, new alternator and $1062 hard earned $$$ later. That is for the tilt truck, alternator and labour plus GST. Tilt truck driver was happy to take cash ;-)

Not a fan of Nissans, the Patrol is rugged, more like a truck. Don't know much about the Muranos but must be one hell of an exhaust leak to cost that sort of coin. women equate costs to pairs of shoes, handbags etc!

the disco is nice vehicle as long as you keep it well maintained and I do. Everything is run by uP (microprocessors). It has a few more refinements then the old Cruisers which is why I bought it in the first place.

and look what I found the other day. Who says being stubborn does not pay off!! Was looking near the wrong tree, went back to the field on Tuesday, took a bearing to where I saw it fall through the trees using a compass app on my iPhone 6 plus. About 40 mins of searching and there it was near the tree in question.

I have modified the attachment for the magnets as they were not touching. Much more positive hold now so should stay put.

Bloody birthday yesterday, 54 now. Heck!

got spoiled by the girlie. hehe

Re-balanced the F4U yesterday, I had it balanced at 100mm from LE but for level fuz with wheels down which is against how you normally balance a Corsair or a P40 for that matter. Anyway that is what the book stated though I followed advice of Motion RC build video and moved it forward from 120mm to 100mm.

I moved the motor forward 5mm, pushed the 6S 5amp pack as far forward as it would go and still had 6 ounces of lead in the chin. Had to add another 4 ounces to give a total of 10 ounces in the nose to get the fuz to sit slightly nose down @ 100mm from LE.

Seems a lot but still a light model for it's size. Will be interesting to see how it flies now with the extra 4 oz in the nose.

Back to the Vampire build . . .

Hey Oz,

One thing I have found on my foamies is that CG can move here and there due to the battery placement. I'm not sure how much room there is for the F4U but I place a mark on the fuse where that particular battery sits for a proper balance. This may or may not apply on this particular plane. I've had some god awful flights when I haven't place my Battery properly. I just read your post again forget my comment. If it is as far forward as possible there isn't much more to do other than add more weight.

Pete Happy birthday I figure any one 20 years younger than Me is a wiper snapper so you missed it ny a year.
On my T/F G/S Corsair I had the C/G fwd about 1/4 " for the first 2 flights flew fine but a bit nose heavy and then moved it back 3/16 and that was much better
We are getting a little white stuff and some cold -20 to nite and - 40 to nite so staying in side as much as possible.
