I think the Coppper based 1 is a different part number than the 1 I gave, but not a bad guess.

Post number 1500 & Pete's P- 47 still isn't finished.

Hey Peter are you going to have something ready for the Tin Can Bay warbirds next weekend? I am going up Sat. lunch time & camping there for the night.

hey Tony,
nope only got the little spit - in fact it need to the tail wheel fixed. Won't be going all the way up with just that.

P47 is still waiting, been busy on the cockpit kit for the P51.

Start a new job next Tuesday so that is really going to hinder my building time.

as the scale pundits will attest a scale model is never finished, you just stop working on it!

cheers

Hi Guy's just bought a part built TF P47, just managed to sort out the mess the guy had made of the wings not had a chance to have to close look at the fuse. Though to be fair the mistakes were minor/silly and easy to fix.

I will look back at the postings here and look at the tips though because it is part built it may be a bit late for some.

I have a Saito 91 for the plane is this to large? If so I have a FW190A8 as a next project it can go in.

Seems like heresy that this thread hasn't been on the front page for over 2 weeks. Had to search for it. Since Peter continues to muck around with the like of P-51s and Piper Cubs, I'll do my best to keep something going here.

My little 47 is about ready to paint. I found a new sidekick recently in a cycling buddy named Chris who seems to enjoy sanding things and drinking beer and red wine. So far, it's been a great gig but I think the wife is getting jealous.

As for pictures, here is where we are. Fully assembled and touch up puttied prior to paint. There are a ton of things that I would have done different if I were starting today, but overall I like the result. Watch me curse and try to beat up Chris over the next few weeks as we try to paint checkers.

Cheers boyos.

Tom

Chris and I were talking about the pros and cons of going big earlier tonight. My shop bench is only 60" so that's a bit of a limit. And the Board of Directors are incredibly stingy about new airplane investments. So we are leaning toward a .60 F4U Corsair of the TopFlite variant. I'm all ears for a business case for something more elaborate (in the F4U mode).

Have you smeared that blue filler on anything yet?

that would depend on what thje anticipated NRR % would be . . .

mind you I can do some wonderful hidden pivot tables that make the NRR looks fab hehehe

kick the car out and use the garage? That is what I'm going to do as I am also running out of room for my big birds

not fussed about the small TF Corsair, all the ones I have seen tend to be on the heavy side and have realatively short life spans . ..

big is definitely better.

Hey you only use the kitchen table 3 times a day . . .

hmm what size workbench could you fit in the lounge room?

fold up bed . . .

lateral thinking

It worked for a frind of mine.

or tell the CFO that based on economies of scale (no pun) that the GS kit is in fact a cheaper investment then the smaller one or you can represent it by order of magnitude only . . .

Click on the "post reply" button lower left, then you'll see below the text field there's a "click to upload images" bit - click on that then find your photos and select them. It can take ages for them to upload so don't panick if it takes a while.

Cam

Hi everyone - still following! Glad to hear you're gainfully enslaved again Pete. I've been away from the Jug waiting for the gear - got it back now so if I can stop pranging my Sunday hacks then I'll get those doors done. Eindekker is 3rd in the queue, plus just got an RCV120 for my "serious" next build, a 109G, so plenty to play with.

Also designing a house - try a triple garage plus 6x4 workshop in the house, plus bigger shed out back. Oh, and a house tacked on
Should fit the toys in that lot.....

Got a bit of painting done today with help from my buddy, Chris. Generally, I'm super pleased with the KlassKote paints. They sprayed very well from my airbrush. We had mixed experiences with spraying the gray fuselage and wing bottom using a Husky detail gun. First rodeo with that piece of equipment. Had some good results, but got a bit of orange peel in the late going. I find mixed feedback on that here on the forums - too much pressure/too little pressure, reduce more/reduce less. If anyone has the silver bullet on this one, I'd love to hear it. At least we'll be painting the checkers (if I don't chicken out and switch schemes) with the airbrush.

Hey Tom,
I've done more than a few checkers with the airbrush. Here's the silver bullet:
1) pressure determines how fine the paint is atomized, so if you see speckles or orange peel, your pressure is too low or your paint too thick.Or both!
Once you find the right mix of reducer/paint, adjust the pressure for paint flow and spray a test on some corrugated cardboard nearby.
If it runs, you've added too much reducer. You can't afford to have this on your checkers. I'll talk to you in person, or demonstrate at your shop when
you have time. 20 years of airbrushing, and I think I know something about some things.. Checkers below:

Thanks Mark,

That's the silver bullet I was looking for. After seeing your Sea Fury, I'm pretty convinced that you have the painting bit well under control! I may take you up on the offer of a demo at the shop if you have time and interest. I'm planning to shoot color again this weekend given that the weather forecast looks pretty good. It was good meeting you at the field last night. When you have a second, shoot me a PM or e-mail and remind me of the local dealers for glass cloth and the 3M Green masking tape.
