Default 101" B-25 Engines

I'm building a Ziroli 101" B-25 and have decided that I will probably use Zenoah G-38's for power. Question is, I'll be mounting them inverted, and I am interested in what mufflers you all have used for inverted G-38's. Also, are they reliable being mounted inverted, or should I mount them on their side? I've been running glo engines since way back when, so I'm also interested in your thoughts about what situations I should be aware of for gas engines. Thanks, Lee

In My opinion, the G26 engines would be a better choice. I have been flying with G23s and 3 blade props for several years now. The 38,s are just too heavy and too much cowl needs to be cut for them to fit.
Again, just my opinion.

Inverted is the only way to run them. I have several G-38s and have never had one cut off in the air. I agree though G-26's would be a better choice for the size B-25...

Jim and Ty, thanks for your input. My problem is that I fly at around 3500 feet here in Central Oregon and run into the dreaded altitude density problem in the summer. For regular airplanes, we often "up-engine" to the next larger size and just throttle back as necessary. Do you have any experience with Brison 2.4's? Thanks, Lee

Well the G-38's will be fine. I have the friend that has the 101" Ziroli B-25 and he put 2 US engines 41's on it. And the right engine is even counter rotating. It weighs in at about 40lbs and it flies really well. He did stretch the wing one rib on each side so he ended up with about 110". Its been flying about 6 years and flies really well.

I'm flying a 101" Ziroli B-25 with Zenoah G-23s and they are plenty for power. I agree with Jim G., the G-38s are overkill and are more common on the 120" or larger versions. I've heard of a guy in Wisconsin who routinely flys his 101" until one engine runs out of fuel and continues to fly a couple more laps around the circuit on one engine. This guy also uses G-23s. I have personally seen other 101" B-25s, one with O.S. 91 two strokes and the other with YS-91 fourstrokes and they both flew with plenty of authority. If you're looking to fly it like a bomber than a fighter, I think the G-26s are plenty of engine even altitude.
