I have not personally used Nelson, but I have only heard great things about it, it does have a short shelf life though. Someday I will have to give it a try.

Here's something BETTER
www.warbirdcolors.com
It's a water-based, fuel-proof, acrylic polyurethane (like Nelsons) but that's where the similarities stop. It sticks to anything, dries HARD, sands in about an hour, and the SCALE COLORS are accurate...There's a primer, a satin-clear and ANY FS# color

Moggy , I went to the local paint store to get some latex for a P47 ARF , needed to match the cowl . The guy spent 30 miniutes trying his best to match the cowl .The match was perfact !!!
When I showed him what I needed and what I was doing he took total pride as if he was building the plane .The paint is inexpensive and the stores are usually great to help .
I also have had great luck in smaller projects with the Tamiya cans , they are great schemes for warbirds , especailly smaller ones where you wont need to much paint

Say that to Roy Vaillancourt: http://www.modelairplanenews.com/how_to/latex1.asp
I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM SAYING THAT TO ROY. IF THAT'S WHAT YOU GUYS LIKE THEN GO FOR IT . I'M JUST SAYING LATEX IS FOR HOUSES THUS "LATEX HOUSE PAINT " . I HAVE NO INTEREST IN TRYING IT THOUGH I KNOW LOTS OF GUYS WHO HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH IT. WARBIRD_1

LATEX IS FOR HOUSES . SORRY
LATEX IS FOR HOUSES . SORRY
I started a simular thread back arouns Aug./ Sept. 2004, and concluded that Perfect Paints would soon be no longer available, and just I was was getting ready to put a tri- color scheme on a Corsair.
I decided to use Behr semi-gloss house paint, as per suggections here at RCU. Like the others said: there seems to be a universal dedication by hardware store employees to making us happy by perfectly matching the paints.
I am putting the final touches on my 1st Corsair that I have used 'house paint' on, and I am AMAZED at how good this stuff really is. I expected it leave a lot thicker coat on the plane, than the hobby paints that we use. I found it to be very easy to use, and it leave a very thin, very smooth finish, adding vey little weight.
I hope to be posting pics of this (Hanger 9) Corsair later today.

It becomes obvious why you choose to use caps lock.

warbird in my opinion none of this is worth fighting over , however are you defending your own company , plugging your own company every chance you get ?Please correct me if I am wrong, but for one I went to that website and the colors are very limited and secondly we are not supposed to promote our own products and servaces in this area .
This post was about paint selection , alternatives for a compnay that went out of biz and that was how it was going until your post , (that can be considered negative )stating "latex is for houses" . Why is that not consdiered flaming ???? Again unless I am 100% wrong and you are not defending your own company then i apoligize but just appears that way .

RE: cheveron perfect paints ????
Thought I would add to this.....I have used Cheveron Perfect Paint on several of my planes....40 size and giant scale alike (I applied it using a automotive touch up gun in my garage....with "some" filtered vetilation (box fan and a/c air filter).....aside from the obvious issues (drying time, oder, application equipment), I had great results with it. Unfortunately, due to EPA regulations, many Mfg. are forced to drop some of the products they made for years that we got used to using. As a result, Modelers, being "inventive and the Mad Scientists" that we are, and fortunatly with people like Ray Vallicort, we now have ideas and processes that we can use like "Latex House Paint". I intend to try Latex paint on my next warbird in the next year or so. (Yellow Aircraft P-47) and I hope by then to have aquired enought info to make the job even easier. I just wish the Mrs would let me paint the bedroom in the same scheme.....
Maybe by then, some one will have expeiremented enough with different brands, tints and colors, to tell us what colors most closely match military aircraft, etc...

Lots of good information here, However is latex paint fuel proof?? Also can anyone tell me what paints can be used over Perfect Paints? I have a aircraft half complete and still have some minor painting to do.
