RE: CMP Zero 120 w/ YS 120
Hi Sean.
I got also a CMP Zero 71". The instruction aren´t clear regarding how to glue the two wing half. They mention epoxy and that´s it. Would you like to tell how did you do join the two half and if you reinforced the joint?.
Thank you very much for your assistance
Renato

Oh man, I am extremely sorry to hear that. Fail safe, there's nothing you can do about that, except for switching channel. At some fields, some channels are better than others. I am on PCM for all my planes, and I still get mini glitches here and there.
Are you gonna get another one? This thing is such a joy to fly. It flies so much like a pattern plane. I've been doing thinsg like square 8, rolling circle, flat spins... If it weren't for the small rudder, I'd try some 3D with it.

RE: CMP Zero 120 w/ YS 120
I have both the GSP Zero and the Platt Zero still in the box. My GSP is over powered with the OS108 but not greatly. I plan to put a OS 160fx in the Platt Zero hopefully less than 20 pounds. I would want a little more motor in a 17 pound Zero. I suspect the YS 120 and OS 108 are close in power. Platt recommends the OS 108 at 15 pounds.
The Zero is a great flying plane. I will not get to the Platt Zero until next winter. Building a IMP Claude currently.

RE: CMP Zero 120 w/ YS 120
I have rpm data for all 3 engines:
OS 108, Slimline Pitts muffler, APC 17x6, 15% nitro: 9400 rpm
YS 120 NC, APC 17x6, 20/20: 9500 rpm
YS 110 FZ, APC 17x6, 20/20: 8900 rpm
Could be my YS 110 is weaker than the rest. But the OS 108 is awefully close to the YS 120.
Frankly, I think 108 is enough power to fly the Platt Zero, even if it's 17 lb. But when it comes to scale plane powerplant, horsepower is not my primary factor. Rather:
1) weight necessary to balance the plane without re-engineering the hood or clogging up the firewall with lead
2) ability to swing a prop large enough to look nice.
So, frankly, a short-nose design such as Zero at 17 lb, you will need a gas engine to balance it, or a heavy large engine like Moki 1.8. And you want a nice big 16x8 3-blade prop, so OS 160 or Moki 180 would be in the correct torque range for it.
Udi,
Don't go back to FM. If you get interference on a channel on PCM, you will get interference also on FM. The difference is, you don't know what it will do when you get hit. At least w/ PCM, you can program to neutral-idle, so damage to the plane, property, and people is statistically reduced.
I would try changing channels. It's cheaper to get new crystals than to get new receivers. And don't fly too close to other pilots, as 2 transmitters in close proximity will produce a totally different radio wave.

Hey I found a cockpit interior for this plane that fits it perfectly from www.vikingcockpits.com of course it has to be assembled and painted , but a great quality product
