Fokker D-VIII
I am building a 1/3 Fokker D-VIII.
I am wanting documentation that shows a Fokker D-VIII that does NOT have Lozenge.
If anyone can help I would be very great. Tom Hammer

Tom,
I have seen pictures of that color scheme D.VIII before and it is beautiful. However, the sources that I have indicate that Osterkamp flew an E.V 156 and that it did have lozenge fabric fuselage rather than the colors shown. In fact, my book shows that D.VIII 697 was in lozenge too.

Allan, The 697 came from the BUSA decal sheet. I was just looking for a scale color scheme that was unusual. I have no documentation to back it up. I got my info from a plastic site that had this DVIII scheme featured. I just copied it.
There must be documentation out there. I've seen pictures of two plastic models, one RC and a 75% reproduction DVIII with this scheme.

Tom,
I will attach a pix of E.V 156 with Theo Osterkamp. Also, I found a website (link below) which shows a scheme like yours and identifies it as T. Osterkamp. If the number on your plane (697) is correct, it is a different D VIII (than my attached photo) which was delivered later in the war. I also have a pix of D VIII 697 (but not in digital form) without your markings but typically the planes may have been 'decorated' after they were introduced into a squadron.
If the website is correct, and I would assume it is - then the plane was painted as you show it.
The fact that Balsa USA says so is not particularly convincing by itself however. I have noticed inaccuracies in their stuff, including the trim scheme for the D VIII on their website, which is wrong.

RE: Fokker D-VIII
Thanks Allan
I assume the 697 supplied by BUSA is for the version on their website. I used it because I had it. I really did no research, other than copy the color scheme from the plastic modelers website.
Thanks for the link. From time to time, I recieve inquiries about my model. I really don't have anything informative to tell people. At least now, I have this.

Windsock Datafile 25 has 2 in Italian civil registry...look to be silver, one war-booty US in olive overall, and possibly one in Dutch civil reg.
