Default Pica 1/5 mustang

I have a Pica 1/5 scale mustang underway as well as lots of other things. I don't know what engine I am going to use to get the plane in the air. What would you suggest. I am looking scale looks power to spare and gas. I have a OPS 30 MAXI and I don't think it will do the job. I don't know what the finished weight will be but should be about what pica says it will be.

Mine weighed 22 lbs. and performed very well and scale like witha Super Tigre 3000. If we do
another one, It'll be powered by a Tigre 3250 or a Moki 2.1 and should balnce without weights
at 19 1/2 or 20 lbs.

Why not use a 3w-50i? with a custom exhaust you can cowl almost all the engine in. There is a 1" prop shaft extension available from Cactus that will let you move the engine back, making it even easier to hide. About the same power as the G-62.....

I will probably try a ZDZ 50 or maybe bigger in mine, but it's a ways down the road. I like the idea of the carb in the rear and not poking through the side of the cowl. Good luck.

Have to agree with Flak. I'm putting the ZDZ50 in my Pica Mustang. Its power to weight ratio is much better than Zenoah G62, and slightly better than DA50. Although I've heard they build tail heavy so the extra weight of the DA might be better. Either way she will fly hard and pull up fast. Good luck on yours.

I'm glad that you said it flew ok with a ST 3000. That's what I'm going to put in mine. It, too, is under construction. Covering it with Flite-Metal. Hope that doesn't make it too heavy.
If you think that this will be an issue, please let me know because I'm not so far along that I can't stop with the Flite metal and settle for paint the rest of the way to keep the weight down.
Then again, what an excuse for buying a DA50!

I wanted to add something else to your PICA P51 post. I've seen this question elsewhere but can't locate it now. Here are the specs for the Retracts.[img][/img]

I had a Q-52 in mine...seemed to be a perfect match at 29 pounds.

Whoops!
I just noticed that I wasn't alowed to send the wheel specs. Don't know why because they come with the retracts when you buy them. I have a set!

Hi,

I've had a Pica and it had a G-45 in it. It would take off at about 1/2 throttle, plane weight, 23lbs on take off, it flow very scale like. If money is no object and you are looking too really scale your baby out, then I'd use a 3W50i, The fire wall will take some modding, but well wreathe it. Happy Landings, Steve Porter
