Default Balancing Elevators on a TF Corsair, Is it necessary?

OK I'm pushing ahead after a LONG hiatus on this build. I just have to cover the Elevator halves with Coverite before painting. I remember Shupack balanced his elevator halves with lead before covering.

Questions?
Is this really necessary in a plane this size flying scale.

How many of you TF 60 Corsair guys took the time to do this.

Is the chance of flutter that much.

I'm asking because if I put 1/2 oz on the tail total I'll need what 3x as much weight to offset in the nose.

Thanks,
Pete

Personally, I would avoid balancing Pete. It will just add tail weight. I don't see flutter being an issue. I have flown TF, Ziroli, Meister and my 1/3 scale Corsair, and have never flown balanced elevators. I did balance the elevators and rudder on my 1/3 scale Corsair, as I was concerned about flutter, but it took 21 pounds of nose weight to balance the plane. I went back and built new, lighter, rudder and elevators and did not balance them. I was able to remove 4.5 pounds from the nose. After 25 flights, no issue with flutter. Most warbirds do not move fast enough, and the tails are small enought that flutter is not an issue. If you balance anything on a Corsair, balance the rudder with that big offset on the top, but even this is not necessary.

Jeff,
Thanks that's what I thought but wanted to be sure.

Hope to be done SOON.

I would sure like to see a few photos of your 1/3 Corsair. Did you scratch build it, or from plans?
