Engine Choice for WM GS Zero
Some advice please,
I am sure this will have been asked many times, but I need some advice on my engins selection for my WM GS Zero.
I have done a search in the forum's and got a little information but I have no experience of many of the engins makes that are mentioned, IE Moki and alike. So some help on a good combo would be great.
I would like to install a multi cyinder 4 stroke if possible, I would like scale performance with a good sound. Glow or Gas.
All Ideas welcome, Thank's.
Dave

Enya 240 V-twin. As far as size, weight and power is concerned, this is about the only one that will fit in the cowl, balance properly, and fly with authority. Check out Sky Pilot's RPM data of this engine in the Engine -> Tachometer forum.
Saito/OS 300 twins, I think, will not fit in the cowl
Saito 170 3-cylinder does not have enough power for this bird
Laser 200 & 240 V's I think does not come close in power to the Enya 240

Capt G,
That looks superb very good photo, what is the slow speed handling like, are the flaps affective.
Did you manage to hide all the engine inside the cowl. If so, can you tell me what exhaust you installed.
How are the stock retracts holding up, IF YOU USED THEM. If not, what have you used.
Thanks Dave

RE: Engine Choice for WM GS Zero
Snoop,
seems like there is a bigger choice than I thought, it's just that I know absolutely nothing about these makes of engine.
I may have this wrong, but I would like the sound of the engine to be something fitting for this war bird, if you know what I meen. Maybe a twin or a rotary if I can get one in[:-].
How does it perform with the two combinations you mentioned, I would like to spin a 3 blade prop if I can, keep it stand off scale if possible.

Slow speed is very nice - does nice wheel landings. Flaps are very effective at slowing it down for spot landings - lets you keep the power up a bit. The moki has a Bisson pitts style muffler and everything except the two exhaust pipes fits inside the cowl. Replaced the retracts right out of the box with Spring Aires and Robart struts. Very solid.

Very very sweet indeed. This will be my first war bird so I am looking forward to geting her up, it will be a while yet though, still need to decide on engine.
Can you give me the serial # for your retract component's as this is new to me. And any changes made to the ARF during build.
Thank's for the help,
Dave

Powered mine with a BME 44 cc. Took 1 1/2 lb nose weight to balance because elevator servos in tail. Use stock pull-pull setup to avoid this! Replaced retracts with good 1/5 scale Spring- Airs and Robart Struts. Plane flys excellent at recommended cg. In third flying season with 100+ flights. Will compete in Sportsman class at Texas Scale Masters end of May 2005. Bomb does drop! See photos in my gallery. This plane will balance perfectly with G45 or Fuji 50. Paul

One of my flying buddy's powers his with a Quadra 52. Not over powered and flies very scale with a nice sound. The pics below were taken before he finished the gear doors but it looks great now that he has them finished and installed.

Smoggyboy,
Yes I do. They are supplied by a friend of ours, Dean Wichman of Helijet RC International in Kamloops, B.C. Dean's website is www.helijet.ca. If you want to see them go to the site, click on "products" then "Helijet Exclusive" and they are about 1/2 way down the page. The guy who owns the Zero is very happy with them. BTW they use Robart struts.
Steve
P.S. If your thinking of useing the retracts that came in the box, save your self some grief and throw them out.
