Default Spitfire

Hi gang,

Well, it has been a REALLY bust spring and I am glad to have a chance to catch my breath and get on the net to say "hello".

Anyway, coming this summer from The Aeroplane Works are kits fro Don Smith's Spitfire MK IX. Don is one of the finest designers of giant scale warbirds, and this is another fine WWII 1/4 scale design from him. I am proud to add his designs to my list as often as I can.

The big question is . . .

How do these plans, semi kits, & components, compare to those of Mick Reeves and Brian Taylor, who make probably the most accurate scale Spits for the MKIX. I would be interested in comments.

Brian Taylor does make good plans. I have not looked over his plans enough to render a qualified opinion.

I have had a look at Don's plans and can say that they are excellent. He is making component parts such as resin exhaust stacks and other touches to really flesh out the design. Although I will say that the lines are good, but Don does leave a lot up to the modeler in terms of small details (panel lines, cockpit etc.)
