Wow, that's pretty good, better than what you'd expect from the published engine specs

RE: Carbonfiber byron mustang blades
Is there any interst in other carbon fiber prop blades? I am building a variable pitch, 4 blade prop for 1/5 scale and larger planes. Since I have to build a mold for my blades, I can easily make them for anyone interested. [email protected]

RE: Carbonfiber byron mustang blades
Hi,
Ironbay has replacement blades that are much stiffer and don't change pitch in the air, so I've heard. They're $88/set. I tried to call Ironbay but could never connect with anyone that could give me more detailed info. The lady that answered the phone didn't really know much about them except the price. Before I spend $88 for new props for a model that I can only fly at a few warbird meets each year (too loud for most fields), I want to talk to someone in the know to see if it"s worth while.
BRG,
Jon

Iron Bay propeller blades
I jut installed a new set of Iron Bay propeller blades on my Byron mustang. The mustang has a Byron Mustang 50 reduction drive. The blades do appear to be more rigid and of the same quality as the original ones. I did not notice any difference in performance after installing the new set. They are worth the $88.00 to atleast have a spare set, as replacement blades were getting difficult to find.

RE: Iron Bay propeller blades
kingair,
Thanks for the info. I thought that they were made as replacement blades rather than "performance" blades. I've got a Q42 on mine and my props are brand new, so is my model; I've got four trim flights on it. I'm going to sell it since I can't fly it much.
Thanks again for the info.

Joe, being in Chicago you've GOT to be near a store that carries R/C Report magazine. $3 and the June issue is yours. No, they don't put their articles online anyplace.

Hi All
I've noticed much intrest in carbon scale blades. I have taken some time to create a scale carbon blade for my composite 80' 109F/G model. these first ones are the test models. Hollow carbon blades ultra strong and comming in around 1.3 oz each. Prop arc is 22" varible pitch. This efficient airfoil workd very well a a to blade test.
I'm working on the gear reduction ratio now for the 3 blade.
Took around a week of nights to develope.

i'm new to r/c universe and relitively new to r/c flying. i have an aerotech models inc P51 mustang. i also manage to obtain 2 byrodrives. has anyone ever thought about, or came up with a way to modify to prop shaft so the engine could be turned upright?????
thanks,
Tim

RE: Carbonfiber byron mustang blades
Dear Friends,
After some minor troubles, the first set is going to be produced this week.
I know that it has been a long awaiting, and I'm sorry for that.
Is anybody there intersted yet in purchasing a set?
Best Regards and happy Christmas
Roberto

RE: Carbonfiber byron mustang blades
Lets see some pics and let me know the price. I have one Mustang new in box and so does Pete, I also sold one NIB two months ago so I am sure that we will all buy a set if the price is right and they look good. Thanks for the work.
Thanks

Your 109 blades LOOK very good. Have you conducted many operational tests? What size / hp engine are you using.... Test engine looks like a Moki?
I think you could get a LOT of interest if you come up with a sound, safe, reliable scale 3 or 4 blade prop and a matching reduction drive. I can think of a dozen applications off hand....
Please let me know how you're coming along. I am very interested in your work. Consider me a potential customer.
Thanks

LRL Thanks
I do this just as a hobby now. 11 years ago my buddy and began to work with composite wings, fuses spinners, stabs and anything we could make ourselves.
So as i have the time and motivation I work on stuff.
The blades are easy to make. An efficient drive system is the hard part.
Heres what I have so far on the blades. The blades are very strong. In flight failure will not occur. Ground srike will ofcourse will damage them. The set up you see is a OS 108 rated at 3hp geared down to what I had on hand. 1:71-1.
My problem right now is I can't get enough rotation momentum to start the engine. I need a starting system like a RCV engine has. Or something like that.
I don't what to run gas at this point, my 80" 109F/G will have most of the gasser sticking out of the cowl. Not nice.
