Default P-51D DATA

I´m starting to build the TF P-51 1/5 and I pretend to make this plane as close as possible to the real bird.

I need some links and places where I can find nice photos and data from this airplane.

And I need also to choose a real plane to reproduce and scale. I´m from Brazil, and we don´t have to much information about this airplane.

Which airplane should I adopt? An important point is that the airplane must have the historical data available to be able to participate on the championships.

Thanks fellows

This Gunfighter scheme is really nice.

I got some books from a friend about P-51´s history and I´ll try to find all the information about the Gunfighter.

Thanks everybody and congratulation for your airplane Richard!

Can someone tell me about the P-51's landing gear retract/extension sequence?

Sometimes a find photos showing the inner doors closed with gears down and sometimes with inner doors open with gear down.

And I want to make a pneumatic door actuation. Any tip about that?

thks

The inner gear doors on a Mustang are always closed except during the retration cycle. If you see the inner doors down on the ground it is because they sometimes drop down as hydraulic pressure bleeds off after the engine is shut down. A company in Canada called Ultra-Precision Technical Services makes a very nice valve which will sequence your Mustang gear properly using pneumatic actuators.

What you want is the UP-2 valve, which you can order along with the air cylinder from Sierra Precision: [link]http://www.sierraprecision.com/prod17.html[/link]

Thanks for the links.

Now I'm just trying to see how can I receive the stuff here. Our rules say that we have to pay 60% as taxes whem importing more than US$ 50,00.

Does someone know a site where I can have some information how to make a slide cockpit?

Thanks

Do a search here on RCUniverse for sliding canopy, and you should find plenty of information.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this so far but if you are going to compete in contests then I would start with a better model more suited to that task, no offense to TF but their Mustang is not very scale at all. I think you could get a set of Dave Platt plans for less than $50 and start from there or just get a 3 view and design your own.

Hi Luke, isn't the Doss Stead Mustang or the Brian Taylor Mustang even more scale than the Dave Platt Mustang?

The only major flaw in the outline of the Platt Mustang is in the D, the rear turtle deck is shown flat when in fact it has a slight arch to it. I have the Doss Stead plans and you are correct, NOTHING wrong with those, if there is a perfect plan then that would be it!

I´m really interested on those Doss Stead plans. Where can I get it?
Do you know if is it available to download in somewhere? And about the scale detail. I can realize this is the best drawings available reading your pots.

Dionysusbacchus, thanks for the links!

Hey fellows,

Some information about my landing gear set.

MAIN GEAR
I bought the ROBART PNEUMATIC P-51 MAIN GEAR, and I´m satisfied with those. I´m not really sure if that plastic support will hold the weight of a less than perfect landing, but let´s see.

TAILWHEEL
About that, I bought the ROBART PNEUMATIC also, but later I found the Retractable tail wheel assembly from aerotechmodels.

I´d like to hear from you which one of these tailwheels is the best one.
For the main gear for me it´s not so easy to change, but for the tail wheel it may be possible.

Cheers
