RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
I have not received mine yet. Should be first part of next week. I'm getting an OS .91FX 2 stroke to power it. More details when it arrives...

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Okay I got my Spitfire today..... There are no flaps?!?!?! I'm a bit confused here. Also the cowling was cracked on top... i can replace that but I have some concerns about the lack of flaps on this model. It must be a very early version of this model. The instructions show flaps and detail the installation steps, but the ailerons are almost full span.... it does have two aileron servos so I suppoe i could mix in flaperons.... but that stinks!! Who wants to mix in flaperons on a warbird!! Anyone got any experience with this?????

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Well that answers that question. This is a model made by Flyboy Models and it is jst absolute junk!! The retracts are absolute garbage! The spinner that's in the box is too big for the cowl.... The list goes on and on. This guy put the instructions from World Models in the box and it's stapled together like it's a factory book... one of the pages is upside down!! I traded this guy an OS 120 4stroke for this piece of junk!!! I'm shipping it back tomorrow.... I found it on RCU so depending on the guys willingness to undo the deal you may all know him by name!! This is very disappointing!

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Well the story continues, I shipped it back to him today. The guy has actually suggested twice that I insure it so he could claim the damage done when he sent it without insurance!! How stupid is that?!?!?!? Anyway, I did insure it but I took pix to document the damage it got being shipped by him without insurance. Apparently the guy was taken by a guy who sold this plane to him and told him it was a WM Spit. I'm not sure what he'll do yet. But he needs to just send my engine back and call it a done deal. I'm not really upset anymore, just ready to move on....

Hi Dave, I see you have put wing flarings between the fuz and the wings. Did you make them and if so how. Thanks

Hey, congrats on your Spit flight. I collapsed on the runway after my maiden flight. I also put invasion stripes on mine and she lights up in the sky!! Very easy to see!

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Hi Greg,
Yes, I made them out of thin ply as the base with formers to give shape, and then I covered the top with plastic sheeting. I covered the wing with gald wrap when I glued the fillet to the fuse. I can provide dimensions etc if you wish.

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Does the 60 World model Spitfire taxi well? I had another World plane and the landing gear were too near the CG (Chipmunk). It would tip over when trying to taxi. It flew great but you had to carry it to the runway for takeoff and after landing bring it back to the pit.
Any info on their larger kit, I believe the Spitfire GS or something like that??
Thanks
Dean

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Dean,
I have no problem taxiing my Spit. The front of the wheels are just about the leading edge or slightly in front and if you use power sparingly, in bursts, she taxiis well. On take off, I add some right rudder and bring on the power slowly, just like the real thing. When she gets up on her feet the rudder takes over and you can run down the strip nicely. I only use about 3/4 power to take off - don't need full.

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Hey guys! The World Models are really nice ARF's and they fly excellent. I have a NIB giant scale version of this Spitfire and it is a beauty, even has wing fillets. I want to sell it if anyone is interested. $440.00 shipped.

Rob

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Question regarding painting the WM spit. Can you paint directly over the monokote/ultracoat?? Do you have to prepare the covering material is some way before painting. What kind of paint do you use?? I am thinking about invasion stripes and the yellow for the leading edge. Thanks

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Hey Dean,
Enamel paint will go on without any trouble. I used Monokote for my invasion stripes and Solartrim for my yellow stripes and roundels, lettering etc.

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Hi! My question is- What material did you use for your invasion stripes, or are they painted? If so what kind of paint did you use? Would you recommend using a Kelo-Exhaust system on the spit with the saito 100, or just use the stock muffler? What did you use for the yellow on the leading edge?

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Don't worry Serge, that last one was very scale like - many Spits ended up like that and later marks had their wheels moved forward slightly to try to compensate for nose dives on landing!
I've dialled in 5% down elevator mixed in with my flaps so she stays level on approach and then I only use throttle to land - I try and stay away from the elevator so I don't porpoise on approach. She comes in smooth and suns in on the main gear and ssettles nicely that way.
Best regards,
Dave

Hellcat 716: What did you use for the invasion stripes? and the yellow on the leading edge? Would the Kelo-exhaust work with the WM spit and the Saito 100, or would you stick with the stock muffler? Thank you for your time. Jack

I used ultracote for the invasion stripes and the trim on the leading edges of the wing. I know nothing about the Keleo exhaust. Best to call them and see what he recommends.

RE: World Models .60 Spitfire
Hi greghart,
I am in the process of building my WM Spit 60. Another local flyer built one and had difficulty with it nosing over on a grass field. He had to use extreme up elevator to keep the tail down, and when it was airborne, immediately go to low rates. It did fly well though.
He wound up relocating the retracts forward, but the center of the wheel is still behind the leading edge of the wing with the plane level. It was alot of cutting and patching and there are some strength issues with the rework. Have you tried it on the grass? . I would be interested in any of your comments. As we fly only on the grass, I am thinking about making fixed gear, designed to have the center of the wheel at the leading edge. It would not require cutting up the wing.
Thank you,
Robert White
