I have the plane but I don't know the wing loading. I will tell you that at #24 the plane flies excellent. No bad habits in take off's, flying or landings. If you use the flaps the plane slows way down on landings. You have to use rudder for take off's and a touch of up elevator to keep the tail down until you build up some speed. The Spit has a very large wing and that generates lots of lift so unless you build your plane super heavy you'll have a good flier.

Wing Loading is calculated as such: wing area in square inches (1280 YA Spit) divided by 144 = X, Weight of aircraft LBS x 16 = Y
Y divided by X = wing loading Lbs per inch.
The YA Spit should come in less than 50 lbs per inch
I hope this helps.

At 25 pounds (400 oz) the Yellow Spit would have a loading of ~45 ounces per sq/ft. assuming 1280 sq/in of wing area. (aka 8.89 sq/ft) Having flown both the Yellow and Dave Platt 1/5 scale Spitfires I have no doubt that the wing could handle 30 pounds or more without having too much of a negative effect on performance. Assuming, of course, enough horsepower up front to haul the weight.

Chad is right, if the YA Spit had a loading of 50 lbs per inch (just think about it!) it would act more like a German U boat than a plane[X(]

Mine has a take off (32 lbs) loading of at least 56 ounces per sq/ft. It flies with a Moki 2.1 and on the test flight after renovation with the engine running poorly the plane still flew ok after being trimmed. The plane handles the weight beautifully and if the weather clears we will go again with a well tuned motor. If you stay around 24 pounds (well possible)you can have a loading of 41 ounces, if you can keep it down to 20 pounds , that would make this plane almost a floater, I did say almost. This plane has a beautiful wing so I wouldnt worry.
Good Luck

Paul, I cut both my wing tips off by at least 4 inches. The wing is right at 80" and I am at 27 lbs. with all the scale detail. This airplane flies better than any other giant scale warbird I have ever flown. Landings and take-offs are disceptively easy. Don't tell your friends that, because you will want them to think that you're really good at handling that narrow landing gear. The Yellow Aircraft Spitfire is a near perfect configuration in my opinion. Enjoy your Spitfire!

I would like to thank you guys for all your replies. I can't wait to get this plane built and in the air. what engine would you say is the best to use? I was thinking of a ZDZ 50.
