Glad to see you're keeping this thread going. I only wish I were closer to you guys, as you seem to have a terrific club and some of the best looking planes flying.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I wasn't really sure if this thread was being looked at by anyone other than by our group of guys. We do have some great building time when the snow flies, but unfortunately it leaves us little time to get out and fly. I'm not a good builder anyway.....other than the yellow aircraft type kits or rebuilding and detailing planes, I'll leave the actual building from the sticks to the likes of Jeff, Phil, Jim, Cal and the rest. We have some very talented builders here in town for sure. I'm just not one of them! We make it a habit to go out every Tuesday rain or shine to all get together. We're heading up to a friends Sod Farm on Saturday so I'll bring the camera up for that. Should be a few new planes to maiden there.
Richard, I'm not sure which Stinson you are talking about but I think it's the brown and cream one. That kit is the Ikon N West kit. It's just over 100 inch span if I remember. The black and red one is a Top Flight kit that was scaled out. That one had a G-26 up front. I thought it flew well but Cal said it could use more power.

If Jeff would just finish the Rata so he has room to work on my Meister Fw190, all would be well.....u listening Jeff?

Hey Ryan,
That 190 better be ready for Denver! I don't think the RATA will make the trip. Possibly an La-7 and a Mig-3 though.
Just got back from the sod farm. All in all a great day except we are minus one Lancaster.
Opie was flying the maiden flight on his Conachen Lancaster (Jeff finished building it last summer and then it bit his hand so he traded it to Opie). To my knowledge, this is the first flight of any Conachen Lanc. I know Jim Conachen never built and flew one so this was basically a test flight of the design of the plane. Basically the prototype. The plane tracked nicely on takeoff and lifted off in a scale manner. She climbed out and on the first upwind turn, it was almost as both left side engines stopped (I don't think they did) but it entered a flat spin from 150 feet or so and never recovered. We'll have a look at the video to see if we can see any clues. It's repairable but not sure weather Opie will do so. He then flew the heck out of his Sikorsky flying boat. It has just over 100 inch span.
Dave K. brought out his new D-520. 102 inch span and a quadra 100. It looks great in the air (for a French plane). It turned out really nice. This was a German kit with a glass fuselage and foam core sheeted wings.
Jeff W. flew his TGA F-15. It has an OS .91 and a Byron fan. The thing is a bullet. I haven't seen a ducted fan fly as nice as this one ever.

Cal had his Jerry Bates Dauntless out again. The cowl came loose and it wouldn't throttle down. Made for an interesting first approach. Luckily she idled down on the second attempt and he greased it in. He also brought out his SisT Fw-190. G-62 power.
Jeff Q. brought out his old "starbuster" and flew the heck out of it. He must have shot 100 touch and go's. We all took turns flying it. G-45 for power.
Wayne brought out his new Ziroli C-46 gunship. Twin G-38's. It was a really nice flyer. He built this over the winter along with a Ziroli P-40 that we'll see later this summer.
John C. flew his new twin beech. 2 G-38's using the new spectrum radio. First flight was exciting but he got her down. Second flight was much better with more throw on the ailerons. Great looking Beech. This one came from PJ along with Cal's small 109.
I flew my Mustang but didn't take any pics. She's too ugly to photograph anyway.....

Dave, as for the Wulf being done for Denver....I doubt it.......I spent entirely too much tiem building for other people the last year.....didn't get hardly anything done on my stuff.....I'll try to get it done for Owatanna and for the Sept WOTR.....no chance for June....I just hope to get the time off.....there are 8600 people senior to me that want the weekends off.....[>:]....I think i can make it work.....I guess I'll just have to fly the trusted old T-Bolt again.....

My friend Ray Lins took some pictures and put them on a DVD for me. I pulled a few off of it for the thread here.

BTW your Jugg looks awsome Ryan. Looking forward to flying with it (trying to keep up) this summer.

I've been really busy with a change at work and it will continue for the next month or so. I'll try to update the thread as I am able. I don't think I'm going to be doing that much RCing for the near future though. I'll see if Jeff or Ray can post if I can't make it out. I have a few pics from last week that I'll post soon.
We fly at Tri Valley RC club in Rosemount MN. Also spend quite a bit of time down in Owatonna MN at the SMMAC field. The sod farm is somewhat of a "secret" so if you've been there, you'll know where to find us. We usually get there a few times each season. Mainly to go get together with our good friends up there and it's also a great place to test fly new planes.

Ryan, since Dave is in class this Tuesday, not sure if he will make it to the field tomorrow (Tuesday), but tomorrow is the maiden of the 96 inch LA-7 from Dave Andersen plans. Weather is calling for 78 and light winds....yippee......Now, I will get pictures, and if it survives and has the power, it may make the trip to Denver.[sm=what_smile.gif]

RE: Warbird Tuesday's in Minneapolis-2006 (picture thread)
I'm here buddy. OK, another Tuesday night has come and gone. Our photo journalist, Dave (Smurfjet) was not able to make it today because of training classes. It was a perfect night for flying with temps in the mid 70's and 5 mph winds right down the runway. Pictures are:
1. Dave Kobilka's 103 inch Dewoitine D520 with a Q-100 in the nose at 40 pounds. Great flying airplane from a custom home made kit from a guy in AZ. Dave got a couple of radio hits. When we took it apart, we found the receiver had come loose from its mount and was bouncing around. Plane made it back unscathed.
2. Phil Scwaartz's Top Flight P-47 with a G-62 and on board starter. unfortunately, I failed to get a picture of it all put together. Nice flyer.
3. Cal Branton's Glenn Torrance D-8 Razor with a Lazer engine. This was Glenn's personal aircraft prior to Cal purchasing. Great looker and nice flyer, but could use more power according to Cal. Phil and Cal also had their 84 inch Meister Me109's out and flying as well.
4 and 5 are Wayne Gertis' Ziroli P-40 with a G-62 and a Ziroli T-6 with a G-62. Both are fast and fly well. Quite the prolific builder, Wayne built this P-40 and a Ziroli DC-3 this past winter. Wayne's DC-3 got Dave (Smurfjet) so excited, he bought a friend's DC-3 this past Saturday.
6. This is the MAN, Dave Andersen. A designer and Top Gun pilot and scale judge. He designed this Arado 96 beside him and my LA-7 that I test flew tonight. The Arado has a 4 stroke engine, but not sure what kind. This plane is very nice flying, and has been making the circuit for years now.
The last group of pictures are my Lavochkin LA-7. Designed by Dave Andersen, I built this off and on over a 2 year period. The span is 96 inches and weight is 31 pounds. Power is a Brisson 4.2 with a 22x12 prop. The cowl and static spinner were laid up by a local friend (Jeff Micko) who does nice glass work. He also made the cowl for my I-16 Rata. The static props are from Wayne Siewert. Radio is a Futaba 7UAP PCM with a mix of Hitec and Futaba servos. Retract mechanism's from Eric Malkerson here in town, and the struts are from Lenny Sarbin (Shindin). Wheels are Sullivan lite-Flite 6 inchers. The plane was painted with Rustoleum lighht gray and Krylon dark gray primer, with Krylon color coates and then clear coated. Graphics are from the local sign shop we deal with (vinyl).
The LA-7 test flight went great. Very stable with very little trim required, except on the elevator (a bit nose heavy). I was concerned about tip stalling with the skinny wingtips, but she came in nice and slow with no tendency to drop a wing. I did not retract the gear, and landed with only half flaps. The 4.2 is nice power for the plane, and hauled it around nicely. Not overly fast, but will gain speed once I get [img][/img]the gear up. The tail wheel broke out of its mount on the first and only flight, so that was it for the night. I'll take that easy fix. Only one flight, but went very well. I flew my 85 inch GB R2 the rest of the night.

Jeff - glad to see the La7 had a good outing. I knew she'd be a great flyer. Wish I could have been out to see it fly.
Here's a few pics from this past week and from the previous Tuesday.
Cal's SBD from Jerry Bates plans and John C's twin beech.
Also Cal and Phil's small Meister 109's and Kirk's BUSA Triplane.
Jeff's starbuster, Dave K's Helldiver and my old (now Cal's Boddington Hurricane)

Dave,
Great pics! I love the one of the SBD taxiing...spinning prop shots like that are too cool! Is Cal planning on bringing that one to Denver in June? He should! Hope you can make it as well...what's it lookin' like?

MAN!!!! Guys, I think ya'll need to either move down to Lexington and fly with me or I move up there. However, Lexington does have more flying weather. I'll spot the cash to start a RC warbird fly in community if you guys move here! We can find the land. I would give anything to have half the guys who fly "our stuff" here! You dont know how blessed you all are!
I'm glad to see Cal enjoying the Beech and the 109! It sucks to know they are not with me, but its good to know that you guys are having fun with them. I have another Beech in primer....so...I guess I'll have to fit it in the build process somewhere.
Keep the pics coming...I love it!
