Default 1/6 Scale A6M5 Zero Cockpit

Does anyone know who might make a 1/6 scale A6M5 Zero cockpit kit? What about a spinner? I can't seem to find these two items.

thanks,

Mike

Hello,

years ago I buy both of them from Marutaka or Royal.
But I think both producers doesn't exists anymore.
Maybe You can find a Seller who has parts of it.

greetings

I knew that Royal (Marakuta) made a Zero cockpit kit, but I didn't think they made a 1/6 scale cockpit. Anyway, yes they are no longer in production. Marakuta quit making kits about a year or two ago.

For a spinner have a look at Skyshark RC. They have two FW190 spinners that are pretty close to the shape for a Zero. They do two different sizes and do them in two and three blade configuration. I have the large one in 3 blade config on my CM Pro 72" Zero and i'm very happy with the look.

Oh, thanks! I didn't even think about Mike Gray! I was sitting here racking my brain for a T-6 spinner, never even thought about a 190! Have you built any of Mikes kits (skyshark)? He has an excellent line, I have about 1/2 of them, which reminds me, I need to get my hands on that Val!

Cheers,

Mike

A word of caution!!!!!!! I bought a Zero Cockpit kit from Ebay, thinking I was getting the IMP scale cockpit kit, that was the posted picture - see actual photo.

what I got, a piece of junk! The seller's ebay handle is:olcrow51

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY! It is a joke, my 7 year old daughter could have produced a better cockpit kit. I just can't believe how bad it is! It looks like the control stick was made from melted down monopoly hotels or something! I started to take some pictures & post them here, but I'd rather not waste the time. The instructions are so bad, you can clearly see that the images are scanned from the Squadron Signal Zero book!

OLCROW51 - if you happen to find this post, All of squadron Signals photo's, artwork, etc.. THEY ARE COPYRIGHTED! I don't think that Don Greer would like to see his painting on your POS cockpit kit.

I've contacted IMP scale, they still have the 1/6 Zero cockpit kit. I'll be ordering one this week. I've also designing one. Also, Dinosabachaus has said that he intends to do a Zero cockpit.

I've attached what I've got so far.

Hey Mike, are you sure what you got from EBAY is not an IMP cockpit? IMP was not necessarily known for their sterling quality. I had some vac-formed stuff for their P-51 which was pretty awful. (as was the P-51 itself) Hope you're not ordering the same junk you've already got! Good luck with it.

Chad, thanks for the concern. I already ordered the IMP cockpit. I don't know how good it is, but nothing can be as bad as the one I got off ebay! Seriously, my 7 y.o. doughter could have done better!

I guess we will see. I've never bought anything from IMP, I used to see their advertisements in "Scale R/C" magazine all the time, and the editor of that magazine used to bragg on their quality. Maybe I'm getting my wires crossed up?

What about their fiberglass fusealages? Any experience with them?

thanks,
Mike

Yeah Mike, I had the displeasure of working on an IMP Mustang with the glass fuse. Their really was nothing about the kit that I thought was of suitable quality. The glass work on the 'stang was very wavy, full of pinholes, and the entire fuselage had a twist molded into it that prevented the wing and tail from lining up when viewed from the front. I've also seen a few other glass fuses from IMP and they have all been bad, notably the PT-19. From what I hear I guess the FW-190D kit was pretty nice but I think that is because it was the personal project of Greg Namey himself and was done prior to his starting IMP as a business. Their foam cutting and vac-forming did not seem much better than their glass work, IMHO. Hopefully the quality has improved in the years since I dealt with them. Good luck with it and definitely give us an update when the kit arrives.

I suppose I'll keep drafting on a cockpit. I'm somewhat of an optimist, hopefully the cockpit kit will be good! I'll comment on it when I get it.

Yeah, you warned me. I just thought I would take a chance. The IMP cockpit kit should be in any day. I'll post some pictures of it when it gets here.

I was at the IMAA event at Castle Airport this past weekend and picked up an excellent cockpit kit for my Hellcat from Viking Cockpits. Crisp vaccum forming, instruments, placards, high quality drawings - I'm really impressed. It's how a cockpit kit should be. It was only $40 as a show special. I believe he said they are usually $5 more plus shipping.

The good news for you, Mike, is that they also make one for a 1/6 Zero. Here's the link: http://www.vikingcockpits.com/

As for the IMP cockpit you got off of eBay, it's most likely the real deal. The seller should have probably destroyed it for the good of the hobby rather than pass it on.

WOW, those where some good looking cockpits!

I won't even comment on the nature of the kit that I recieved from I.M.P.

Lets just say that I'll be ordering one from the link posted above. I'll post pictures of the I.M.P. cockpit when I get the time.

Thanks for the info Veltro!

Well, I've had my first look at this ARF and I'm impressed! It has potential for a serious bash. Adding a FULL cockpit kit will have some problems. Never mind that half of the servo tray has to go but also the fuel tank is in the way. I have the BBI 12" Japanese pilot that will work great in this one, just have to figure out a way to give him some leg room!

I'm still blown away with the value this ARF has in both price and quality. When I think about the price I paid for kits in the 80's with the die crushed wood and the fact you had to build it, for a plane of this size those kits were in the $150 dollar range back then! I got this thing for $132! Good bye kits, but at least I got the building experience so it wasn't all bad.

Dion,
I'm on cmp Zero no. 2. The first was an older version, I bought it off a member in my club. I must say that CMP has improved their quality, the Zero that I most recently bought was much higher quality than the older model. I'm currently bashing away on mine!

I'm probably not going to get too carried away with this one, I'm ready to fly it! I was thinking about buying another one and really detailing it out.

For the money, this is a really great ARF!

Chad,

I thought you woul like to read this, it's from an email that I recieved today.

"Dear Sir
It has come to our attention that you are posting a product on R/C Universe and wrongly using it to defame our Products. It states you purchased this on e-bay . At this point we are only asking that you remove this post as it is a smear on our products . The next step it to take this matter up with our legal Department . We have no record of selling you a cock pit kit or any thing else.
Please Govern Your self accordingly.
Scott"

Hmmmmm...... Legal department, right.
