Hey that's my video!
That "whistle" you hear is from the gun ports in the wings at high angles of attack.
By the way that's "Crazy Horse II" owned and flown by Lee Lauderback from Stallion 51 Corporation.

It has been said that flying a Mustang IS better than sex. [sm=wink.gif][sm=wink.gif]

I say no.
Completely realistic sound like that is just about impossible on such a small model, but it's still possible to achieve something that "sounds" realistic, so to speak.
My Spitfire has an on-board sound system with Merlin sound recording that follows the throttle with different sounds for startup, idle, acceleration, high speed, retardation and shutdown. It sounds much better in real life but here are a couple of videos of it:

I have just installed new and better Griffon sounds that I made but haven't had a chance to test-fly with them yet because of the weather. some sound-system discussion here: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=573
Gotta love the P-51. I like it more than the Spitfire.

i have to disagree with the statement of the howling sound a mustang makes in a dive. it's coming from the rad intake on the bottom of the fuse. the guns are way to small to make such a deep sound. if the guns were at fault , you'd hear i very high pitched whistle not the deep howel. i was at a show where three mustangs were doing that all together whoa !! another reason the noise isn't coming from the guns due to high angle of attack is the wing would most surely stall if that was the case. that's my 2 cents

Pretty cool! Have you considered adding an oil tank and pump to create a few oil streaks on the fuselage?

I was just quoting the woman that narrated the show for Lee.
By the way I flew "Crazy Horse", the airplane in my avatar, and it didn't have the gun ports. When I split-s'd and pulled out of a dive at 410 mph it didn't make such a noise

Also I like the sound of my World Models P-51 (YS 110 powered). It doesn't sound like a Merlin but it does sound like a real plane. More so than any other airplane that I have heard.

I believe a sound very close to the real thig could be replicated, but it woud take some experimentation. This would all have to do with air intake and outlet. Unfortunately, I don't have the time right now to experiment. Good luck to you if you try. My TF 1/6th Scale P-51D is powered by an OS 1.08 and flies beautifully. She is in "Glamouous Glenn III" scheme. That 1.08 sounds great while swinging a 16X8 propeller. I will eventually try a 4 blade to see what happens. Good luck.
