Nothing but a bunch of pins, glass balls, cloth and pipe cleaners huh? I used the Great Planes cockpit kit in my Bert Baker P47, (what a piece of ^%$#) had to butcher it up to fit and do a little creative tinkering. It looks pretty decent though.

I also started with a Dynamic Balsa ABS plastic kit for my Ziroli P-40 and then went from there. I used the Squadron Signal and A Detail and Scale book by Bert Kinsey. I also bought some of the Dave Platt Scale tapes (the one that covers cockpits and sliding canopies is "The Jet Set, Volume 3"). I have looked at the entire series of his tapes and I have been able to gain some useful info off of each one. He goes into a lot more detail than I would, but the information is really great. To add some additional detail I purchased an assortment of abs plastic pieces (sheet, square, rectangle, half round, round, etc.) I used the Evergreen brand of ABS. This brand can usually be found at drafting supply sotres or some stores that deal with plastic models or model railroad stuff.

I used the Dynamic Balsa kit for mine and it was a very nice kit.All the abs has to be backed with 1/8 inch ply and then fit and glued in place it takes a little doing but I would buy another in a minute.

A good friend of mine was suppose to touch up my pilot for my Byron P-47D. There is no detail in it......... Until he started working on it. He built an awsome throttle quadrant.
I can tell you this much, he WILL be the one to build my Ziroli Corsair cockpit!
He may be interested in building yours too!
I will try to post some pictures if I can figure out how to make the file size small enough to post.

thanks Vince!! The Dynamic Balsa kits I think are the best for realism.A little exrta touches and they can be even better. The levers are toothpicks with pin heads glued to them, really quite simple.

Here are the pictures of the scratch built throttle quadrant. My friend did a great job! I know that he is interested in doing a complete cockpit.
Check it out
